Gesture is a great base to practice for dynamic poses, segueing into full life drawing. I've taken a few classes on it, and the general structure was first part of the class being gesture, 30 second to 5 minute poses, into longer 30 minute/ 1 hour poses.

There are a few really good sites for it.
artists.pixelovely.com/practice-tools/figure-drawing/ is one I use often.
