I don't think you understand the premise. You're thinking that only you are immortal, but what he's talking about is everybody being immortal, and people would still be pumping out babies unless it was literally everybody that was immortal, and the thing that made you immortal also made you unable to have a child. Unless of course, you mean us moving and colonizing different worlds and making it so that the population would decrease in that way.

doubt it will happen in our lifetime though. Also, uploading your consciousness into a computer isn't true immortality, you will still die, but there will be a copy of you left on earth. It's the equivalent of cloning yourself and then giving the clone your memories. That clone looks and acts just like you, but your consciousness wouldn't transfer into it when you died.
User avatar #38 - xdeathspawnx (10/05/2013) [-]
sorry correction, because it has never been done, your consciousness could in fact transfer into the clone or computer once you die, but it seems much less likely than what I preciously stated.
#26 - teenytinyspider (10/04/2013) [-]
I kinda don't want to be immortal.

I want to live here, enjoy my life, but I don't want to stay here for ever.

Also, can you also imagine how many of those "OMG WE'RE OVER-POPULATED" people will be screaming? My ears bleed at the thought.

**bellbottomshark rolled a random image posted in comment #28 at BET YOU DIDN'T KNOW ** I don't want to be immortal unless the company is likely to be very different than it is right now.

Avatar 2045, which will be finished in 2045 if all goes to plan, and it does so far, will do this very effectively and allow you to exist in the physical world despite being on a computer technically.

This is implying that no other variation on medical technology or the like gets there first which is very much possible, at the very least it's incredibly likely to happen within our lifetime, as in, over 95% if we don't get into some kind of massive war.
#21 - pwnmissilereborn (10/04/2013) [-]
There's still much discussion in what consciousness is. Is it something immaterial or is it permanently stuck to your own brain? Sure you could upload all your memories and personality into a computer, but would it still be YOU? Would you still retain your consciousness? Or would it only be a very realistic simulation?

On the other hand immortality within our organic bodies will only be sustainable if governments all around the world impose REALLY strict birth policies, and there will most likely still be death by disease, injury, etc. as accidents are not completely avoidable.

Let's say the interactivity level on classes is close to nonexistent. The lecturers simply talk and talk and you have to write down your notes. The teaching method is monotonous.
That and the schedule (from 3 to 9), makes the classes a bit tiring and boring.
I've been told the first year is the worst though so these considerations may change.
However, I'm pretty happy with my choice. And I partially have to thank it to you. I may regret it when I'll be one unemployed more but so far, I regret nothing.

Hmm.. hard to say yet because I haven't had any exam yet but, so far, and considering the best is yet to come, I'd say:
On scale meh-OMGAWD, it's a "interesting topics, boring classes"
And on cakewalk-YOUSHALLNOTPASS, I'd say it's a "easy if you give it some effort and time". This is what I can say with my, yet, little information.

Well this is the first year so the subjects are out of my preferences (prehistory and some other basic formation stuff like expression in a modern language or something like that) but in the second year... Universal Medieval Story I & II and Universal Ancient Story I & II. And on the third year, Universal Modern Story I & II. Just fuck yeah. Universal means universal so I'm expecting having some Asian history lessons as well. However, the agenda is fascinating. I'm having Canary Islands Story I and I love it. It opened my eyes a lot and I learned a lot of the prehispanic cultures of the Canary Islands. We even went to the Tenerife's (my island) Anthropological Museum and it was fascinating.

The classes are the "I talk you copy whatever you can" kind of so you gotta write fast or record the classes (I do both). Looks like I've got to work because there are group assignments all over the semester and I'm doing one right now about an English writer who specialized in Imperial Spain for my Introduction to History subject.

So how is DS2 for you?
User avatar #2834 to #2833 - waffies (06/22/2014) [-]
DS2 was fun. Beat it once, and played through most of a second time. I know i'll enjoy it again later, but replaying so soon again after got boring for me. I'll get on another kick eventually.

Whatcha been up to lately? Also, any idea when vol 3 of Dreamkeepers will be released online? (im too poor to buy up the books)
