#24 - angelusprimus (10/17/2014) [-]
No he is not.
Gladius, real roman gladius is a STRAIGH blade sword. Designed for an ease of draw in cramped shoulder to shoulder conditions.
He is using xiphos sword, which is a greek sword, leaf shaped and wider on the top then by the hilt.
User avatar #73 - sumerfag (10/18/2014) [-]
xiphos's don't typically have the circular guard, this seems to be some sorta fucked up gladius-xiphos mix
#102 - angelusprimus (10/18/2014) [-]
With a bit of Gaelic influence as well, yeah.
#54 - batvader (10/18/2014) [-]
False, that is a Maintz Gladius, which was the sword used by the romans before the 4th (and final) type of gladius, the pompeii gladius, was made and distributed throughout the roman legion. The Maintz was a slightly curved blade that flared before coming to a point. Also, If you look at the hilt and pommel, it clearly has roman influence. (compared to the pic you provided and every other historical pic)
#64 - angelusprimus (10/18/2014) [-]
I disagree, first, only thing that's clearly roman influenced is the guard, which doesn't look anyhting like mainz guard. Its more like spatha late roman swords.
upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fb/Mainz_Gladius.JPG
Second mainz isn't leaf rounded like the sword on the picture, it just has a slight waist. Its because northern swords were manufactured by gaul, and retained celtic infulence.
To be completely honest, the sword on the picture is a mishmash of styles and influences that never existed together in history (roman or greek), but it was clearly meant to be xiphos.

there's the "trucebreaker"-thingy.
let's say I start a war against the sultan of egypt and beat him up good. he'll surrender. we cool and all. though he is probably pissed at me taking his land. BUT we have a truce.

then I immediately decide the persians need a good facewrecking. so I stomp them into pulp. everything is going good. and then egypt joins in. before my truce with them ends.

the egyptian sultan doesn't get trucebreaker, even though he has a truce with me and just broke it.

That's blowing things a bit out of proportion. But to be honest I don't really care about point of origin. I was talking about the ska that I listen to. Which is a derivative of punk. Bands like Reel Big Fish, Less than Jake, and Streetlight Manifesto.

The ska you're referring to is a derivative of Reggae, which did originate in Jamaica.

You know. Roughly same time of origin, typically meaningful lyrics with a "break of conformity" message, often times has the same kind of beat. Not to mention the super personal fashion senses that stemmed from both of them. There are other reasons as well for why I think they're related but this is my second all nighter in a row. Sorry man. x)

DId 15 seconds of typing and lookign on wikipedia.

Ska was created in 1950 jamaica

Punk was created in 1974.

If we are talking history of music then this is a so long time gap as the Roman empire and Napoleon.

I'll tell you as my grandfather told me:
"When my man and I were preparing for going to the front.
The high command said they will call a priest to bless our weapons.
When he finished blessing the guns he started a prayer.
He said that we have to kill all the enemy's who want to invade our land.
(They were defending the land from the Italy army so basically the country of catholic church.)
From that day on, I wont go to the church even if the popes kisses my ass"
