That's a straw-man and you know it. People are not trying to arm children, people are trying to arm adults so they can protect the children. Law-abiding citizens are in favour of responsible gun ownership.

And yes, the gun laws are already too tough. Here in Canada it is nearly impossible to use your gun in a self-defense situation because you are not allowed to take your guns out of your safe unless you are going to the range, or to a gunshop, or hunting, ect. Gun owners are often slapped with harsh charges when using their guns for self defense because the rcmp claims that if they could get to the gun, they are not storing them properly.

Some states have reasonable gun laws, but some have even worse laws than Canada, such as bans on private handgun ownership, or assault weapon bans, magazine capacity limits. These are all examples of ineffective laws that also intrude on our rights.

You have to remember, it the crime we are ultimately trying to stop, so focus on the crime, not the tools
