Taiwanese here, its a cultural thing in Asia, double eyelids, pale skin. It's a sign indicating the difference between the 'peasants' and 'wealthy'. Wealthy ppl are looked at upon as white (because if u work indoors u dont catch sunlight, unlike peasants who work in ricefields), and double eyelids is a beauty thing from East Asian. It's not that they want to look like Americans lol, its been around for many centuries

My history teacher said it was some kind of environmental thing. Some Newton theory about how there were many harsh sandstorms @ Asia back in the days, so the eyes would give some kind of resistance to it, i have no idea. I have natural doube eyelids and all my ancestors (the ones i know of) and parents are from Taiwan aswell
