Becuase of FJ, I've recently remembered how cool video games actually are and have been re-playing a bunch of my old faves (Ocarina of Time, Donkey Kong Country, Thief) and have seen a few games on here that look interesting: Portal, Fallout 3D. And there are a TON of games I missed out on that I could catch up on: GTA 3D, Half-Life, Deus Ex. But there's only so much time I want to devote to video games, so I pick and choose. And honestly there's nothing better after a hard day's work than coming home and playing some Age of Empires 1 and destroying the Greeks.

So yeah, it's OK that not everyone is into the same things you are. I know the average FJer is young, loves video games, anime and Pokeman, but I just don't fit that mold. Accept it and don't fake fun of what you don't understand.

well Phasma's armour is very unige in it's design so we easily pick her out of the crowed, but for a standred trooper we can't unless the speak .

Why not just get a normal QWERTY keyboard, if it's that necessary at your job? I'm a programmer too, and i hate having to use different keyboards (UK keyboards normally, some university classes used Mac's, which are US. The @ and " are in swapped if i remember correctly, as well as a few other little things. Just ended up bringing a spare keyboard in because of the amount of typos)

Lastly, it's quite difficult to get US keyboards in Germany, especially for laptops where it's built in. I would have to purchase everything in the US and ship it over and pay extra tariff and shit, so yeah - no. Plus, why not integrate? Sure it took a while to learn the new one, but now I'm perfect at it and still pretty good at the US one.

I use an Azerty keyboard but I use a Qwerty on my Phone. I only ever used a pc in another country, but that was in France and they also use Azerty. The only times I also use Qwerty on a PC is when I am in college (they installed Qwerty keyboards on some PCs, Azerty on others). The problem with Azerty is that in most games you have to rebind buttons, some read your keyboard layout, some don't. And in games like CS;GO I use shift to walk and alt to crouch. And when I accidentally push both, my keyboard switched to Qwerty and it doesn't fuck up your controls for some reason, but it DOES make "A" a "Q" when typing etc. So that's annoying, but I can live with it.

I guess I've never used a computer in Belgium or France. It kinda sucks that many countries have different layouts. I grew up in the US and got used to QWERTY and all the special characters so that I could type >60wpm without looking. I move to Germany and BAM - I make tons of fucking errors and my wpm goes way down. I'm literally sitting at the computer on my first day at my new job (computer programming) and I'm like, "uhhh... how do I get the greater-than and less-than signs?" Totally embarrassing. There's this extra key that doesn't exist on the US keyboards called "Alt Gr" and it basically acts like an extra shift so you can get three characters on a key. For example if you press 9 you get 9. SHIFT + 9 = " Alt Gr + 9 = ]

so all the special characters I need for programming are in totally different places and I'm basically fucked. Took over a year to get back to my normal speed. Then I go visit the US and gotta do some work or something and I'm fucked again. I think now I'm pretty good at being able to switch between both now. The hardest part is using a German keyboard with a program that thinks it's a US-layout. I have to try and remember where all the special characters are on the US layout and enter them on the German one. It's tough.
