Japanese animation is much bigger than in most countries, and by far more heavily catering towards adults (compared to animation in America and such) . So it's a much larger subsection of animation than that of other countries (and much more popular between countries), which does sort of merit a distinction.

Simpsons? Futurama? Family Guy? Anything on Adult Swim?

And like I said: there's a 99% chance all the animated series in the world are actually manufactured in Korea anyway, so I really don't see a difference other than the origin of the story. People just want to be special like a snowflake: "oh they're not just any old cartoons, they're cartoons created by people in Japan. That means I'm special." Fuck that shit - there are so many TV shows and films and shorts and animations created all around the world - it's not just Hollywood and "rest of the world". For example, I enjoy a lot of TV shows that are shown on the BBC, a British station, and one does tend to notice the differences to US television (very few episodes per season, lower budgets, often the same director and even cast for many different shows). But it's not like they are so wildly different that they warrant their own genre or type of show format. It's just TV shows - that happened to be produced in England. Big deal.

So comedies? Plus the cartoons on Disney. What a diverse amount of material.

The whole point of making subsections is to help categorize them so that it's easier to find more material similar to other things you like. I don't want to ask for something similar to From the New World and get a Pixar film. It's not to put on or the other on a pedestal, just classifying based on distinct characteristics.

It's because Disney declared all of the expanded universe to be non canon, so they can make their own characters and storylines and don't have to follow any history. Basically anything besides the 6 previous movies and related media doesn't count anymore.
