#102 - those windmills are tall as ****. maybe not terminal velocity…  [+] (58 replies) 08/06/2016 on Windmill fire +130

Year by year the size and height of turbines increase. Offshore wind turbines are built up to 8MW today and have a blade length up to 80m. Onshore wind turbines are installed in low wind speed areas and getting higher and higher towers. Usual towers of multi megawatt turbines have a height of 70 m (229 f) to 120 m (393 f) and in extremes up to 160 m (524 f), ... -- wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_turbine

Ok, you jump from 100 m height and roll, I'll watch you.
#240 - anon (08/06/2016) [-]
I work on these currently. The ones I'm building in Huntington oregon are 80 meters tall at the hub. So if I stand where they stand it's roughly 250 feet from the ground. At that height a fall is something like 3.2seconds (rough math in my head) terminal velocity for a skydiver is 53 meters a second acording to google and it would take definitely less than 4 second to reach that according to acceleration due to gravity at 10m/s squared. So if I jumped off I would be as near as makes no difference, going as fast as a sky diver when I hit. I carry 500 foot of 550 paracord in my backpack when I'm up there. It would be murder trying to slide down that, but way better than burning to death or just jumping I guess. I also have a mild death wish because "Muh lyfe 2 hard" so I'm not as worries as I should be, but I'm sure I'd be crying like a little bitch thinking about how much I want to live if I was faced with actual death.

Pic related. I took it 2 days ago.

well its hard to explain, but people whom survive plane falls usually fallow a pattern of landing on theyre feet and rolling to the side once theyre torso make contact with theyre feet, weather its from the legs breaking or simply the legs folding up underneath, if i was in that situation id figure might as well try, its not like you wont end up any worse than the situation your in

I like how you made two posts that basically say the same, but one thumbed down and the other one thumbed up.
I agree though, I think jumping would be the most logical thing - there's a very minimal chance to survive and I think it's by far not as painful as burning to death.

No one has survived falling from a plane to the ground.

The only "stories" there are of people surviving is from a very good stroke of luck of power lines or a lot of snow.
#278 - anon (08/07/2016) [-]
Not true. One woman's chute failed to open and she hit the ground. Mud, but mostly solid. She essentially belly flopped the earth, broke a few bones...
#204 - msypsylon (08/06/2016) [-]
>no one survived falling from a plane
>except a few people, but those were really lucky
#285 - funnygiggles (08/07/2016) [-]
I was actually stating that those "stories" were made up. Should have made that more clear. I don't think any are true.
User avatar
#286 - msypsylon (08/07/2016) [-]
They're not. Very few of them are confirmed but they exist. You are right when you said they were extremely lucky, as they landed in trees, snow, glass roofs etc and barely survived, but they did survive. There is no doubt about that. They were confirmed to be on board of falling planes, there were medical reports and witnesses. They spent months in the hospital and some of them had permanent injuries. One of the falls was even captured on film, according to wikipedia.

Surviving free fall is not impossible, Events like that were "recreated" as in people jumped from planes and landed on safety nets without any injury. Tree branches, for instance can break someone's fall enough to keep them alive, in the same way safety nets do, but, obviously, they'll lead to a lot more injuries.

#201 - anon (08/06/2016) [-]
Some people who fall from great heights live.
All people who stay in fire too long die.

I bet your one of those people who leave multiple choice questions unanswered if you don't know it.

That's not reasoning
It's ignorance

You can just go to google and search up actual events of this stuff happening
Just saying "I don't think that could happen, therefore it can't" is pure ignorance
#256 - empirennn (08/06/2016) [-]
**empirennn used "*roll picture*"**
**empirennn rolled image**

Yes, but the only logical conclusion is how general reasoning/logic works.

You drop an ice-cube and have a "crack" sound, the only logical conclusion is going to be the icecube hit the floor.

It's just normal reasoning/logic and how to process things.

#260 - thefates (08/06/2016) [-]
It's lack of research on a topic that you chose to disagree with. There was no reason for anyone to believe no one had ever survived such a fall if they never bothered to check. Logic, of course, comes in to play. But logic would also dictate that extra variables often lead to unexpected outcomes.
#261 - empirennn (08/06/2016) [-]
**empirennn used "*roll picture*"**
**empirennn rolled image** I chose to disagree with?

I haven't posted any disagreement.

I was just posting that's how people think about things through logic/reason anyway so commenting that it was unreasonable when they do the same thing would be hypocrisy.

I don't really care about the initial comment about falling out of an airplane.

"I think it applied to you just fine mate."

Really? "I said "you" as part of a hypothetical situation"

Seems like it didn't apply to me because when I referenced that it didn't you said it was hypothetical.

So which is it?

i dont know about you, but theres overwhelming evidence that falling to the ground at terminal velocity will kill you.
User avatar
#243 - thepizzadevourer (08/06/2016) [-]
True, but it is possible to fall out of a plane and hit something other than the ground, no? People who have survived hit something that breaks their fall, whether it be a bush, tree, skylight window, or something like that
User avatar
#211 - lijok (08/06/2016) [-]
Yup. and there's overwhelming evidence that there have been cases of people surviving
#275 - funnygiggles (08/07/2016) [-]
I haven't found any "verified" evidence. A report of something happening does not count as evidence.

There are no eyewitnesses for any of these events. Doesn't that sound a bit strange?

Look up people jumping frm the golden gate bridge, there havbe been over 20 survivors
Also look up the woman who fell from 30,000 feet when her sky-diving instructor had a heart attack, died and she couldn't reach the parachute.
User avatar
#156 - thefates (08/06/2016) [-]
I do know there was at least one man that survived a fall from a plane because his parachute didn't deploy. But it was very very lucky. Something like a roll in to a lot of bushes that left him only relatively maimed.
#161 - manza (08/06/2016) [-]
Yeah, a Germanwoman also survived a 10,000 feet free fall from a mid-air plane breakup, LANSA Flight 508 in Peru. Sole survivor out of everyone on board.

I only played the beta of the first one. Really liked the game but I didn't get the full game because all of the hate it was getting. When I saw the trailer for the 2nd one I got hyped for it. I just hope this time every cod/Bf fanboy doesn't hop in to the beta and start bashing the game because it is not identical to their loved game.
User avatar

thats why i dont read review until i see evidence for myself, if you enjoyed the beta why not play it rather than avoid it due to critics? video game critics are usually crooked anyway

I wasn't blown a way by the gameplay so I wanted to watch the reviews before buying the game after seeing the reviews I just continued playing games that I loved. The second one looks very promising so I will buy the game this time. Also I didn't like the traditional EA DLC practice (I know that the made the DLC free for everyone at the end on the first one) but since they are all free now it is looking very good.
