Yea who needs the PATRIOT ACT

#20 - reaganomix (02/09/2012) [-]
So let's assume every American is a terrorist and just repel the 4th Amendment. Besides, we wouldn't have even been attacked if didn't fuck around in he Middle East.

Terrorism is determined by point of view. The U.S. has bombed many countries in retaliation, but innocent people think of U.S. actions as terrorism. The U.S. might call resisters of U.S. occupation as terrorist, while the resisters regard their own violence as patriotism.

We need to ask what drives anyone to terrorism. We need to look at the roots to understand their actions.
#25 - N. Korean citizen (02/09/2012) [-]
your thinking is deep however the patriot act is what has been sucessful in protecting us and this act has not at all affect my daily life as a US cititzen i don't blame the terrorist in hating us i don't care if we are all terrorist i just want to know if i can walk down my street without a car blowing up
User avatar #35 - reaganomix (02/09/2012) [-]
"We have lots of evidence now that when you put the foreign military presence in, it triggers suicide terrorism campaigns... and that when the foreign forces leave, it takes away almost 100 percent of the terrorist campaigns" --Robert Pape

What incentive is there to blow up a car in your neighborhood? There is none if we do not incite the people into doing so. The closest thing to a terrorist attack was the underwear bomber. Not only did it fail, but it took 9 years after 9/11 to even occur. The government is here for only one reason, to protect our liberties and inalienable human rights granted at birth. If we really don't want to be a victim of terrorist attacks, we need to look at the roots, not focus on the symptoms.

You shouldn't be worried about how the U.S. government can use the Patriot Act now, imagine what could happen 50 years from now. The government only remembers the laws enacted that are beneficial to them at that point in time.

The same thing happened with the Monroe Doctrine. 70 years after it's conception, we didn't want European influence in the Americas because we wanted to exploit those countries. So we pulled out the Monroe Doctrine.

There is a law that prevent the Army, Navy, Air Force from performing actions on U.S. soil, but there are still many instances in which this happened. The government is selective in what they choose to adhere to and a what they won't.

Even though what you put down is very true little has had nothing to do with why the patriot act is so bad. We are a capalist country so we have the right to elect and according to the PATRIOT ACT it has to be renew every 4-5 years so if it becomes a problem i'm sure we can elect our sentors or representive to cancel that out however this act so far has done more good than bad so if this does survive 50 years i suppose it is doing its job

First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak out because I was Protestant.

Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Capitalism is an economic system. We are a republic.

Maybe in a perfect world, the common people will be able to get rid of things that they are unsatisfied with, but let's take a look at the most recent example. Barack Obama was a champion of civil liberties--he ran on this platform--and he went to Harvard to study constitutional law. The biggest slap in the face is when he continued the Patriot Act, something clearly in violation of the Constitution.

Also, a problem with what you said is that money plays a very big role in politics. Since large corporations and billionaires are shoveling money towards politicians, why would they listen to their constituency when they earn more money by listening to the few with the most money.

You also do not realize the complete apathy the average American has towards politics. People get upset about it now, but once Monday Night football comes on they forget about the problem. The problem does not go away, people are just distracted by something irrelevant when out civil liberties are being taken away. President Barack Obama has acted like Bush for the past 3 years, but now that it is an election year, he is trying to be more liberal to be reelected. People are so forgetful that they will forget the past three years and they will only pay attention to politics in an Election Year.

If we allow the government to start taking away some of out liberties, what will stop them from continuing the process? The governments job is to protect our inalienable rights of Life, Liberty, and Property. With the Patriot Act, the government can take away all of these. The President has the power to execute American Citizens WITHOUT due process (Completely going against the Bill of Rights)

The government does not have the right to intrude in the lives of the American People.

Don't blindly agree with whatever your parents believe. Read. Learn. Think.

If you don't care about "homos" let them marry, it won't effect you at all.

Marijuana, is a plant. The government is still scared over a movie from the 30s.

Have you really asked everyone you've ever talked to about that? you never know...

Sure, let's not give gays the same benefits of straights and treat them (technically us considering I'm gay) like second class citizens. Fuck you, fuck your religion, fuck your belief, fuck society.

Well for one, he isn't being serious at all. He's just trolling.
