It is really annoying. Now he's giving me the silent treatment and refuses to acknowledge my existence.

Worst part is, I have a hormonal deficiency in which my body doesn't produce enough testosterone so I have to take supplements. Of course I'm that thin, short, feminine looking nerd type in the Global Honor's Scholars Program and Alpha Lambda Delta. Most of what I've seen him do is watch anime for hours on end, whilst yelling at the characters on the screen. And he has the gall to call me immature. I've been bullied for most of my life, so the silent treatment is actually a step up.

Now, the testosterone deficiency usually leads me to be noncompetitive, and liable to moving around and trying out new approaches like an Airbender. But honestly, I feel like if I move out than he wins and will continue this behavior. And I won't let that happen.

But I do agree. If he goes out and dies while drunk, or never comes back again, I will be happy.

Oh, it's been great! There was a Halloween party tonight. Flyers advertised it as the sexiest "hot and dirty" party of the year, and as going to be "twerktacular." All the girls talked about how slutty they were going to dress. My friends and I sat in an empty room in the academic building and played Dungeons and Dragons instead of going. It was great, I finally managed to obtain the feat Great Cleave, which I've been working for.

You would not believe how my week has been. This is probably going to be a rant.

So my roommate comes back completely plastered. My family doesn't drink much and my parents are actually responsible. He passed out on the bed. I was always taught that letting a drunk person pass out is the worst thing you could do. This led with me trying to find the RA for help because the heck do I know about taking care of a drunk person? I can't stand the taste of alcohol.

His friends followed me around screaming that I shouldn't be allowed in public or on a campus because I was too sheltered and immature to be there if I didn't know how to take care of a drunk person. Gee, what does that say about their family lives?

So we had to go to the head of residence life the next day to get things sorted out. It's better now because now I know what to do if he comes back drunk, which is to say, nothing. However, he is now giving me the silent treatment and pretending that I don't exist. I find it hilarious that he thinks this will work on me. This is after he admitted that he feels hatred towards me but can't figure out why. I think it's because he never had to share a room before and he's getting territorial.

Let me mention that my roommate is 28 years old and acts like a 12 year old regularly anyway. Obese, wears a cowboy hat, and cammo jackets. Believes vaccines and medications are conspiracies made up by the government, schools, and doctors to make money and that they don't actually work. Also believes cigarettes aren't bad for you since his parents smoked around all 6 kids and none of them have asthma.

This isn't even mentioning that he has no manners whatsoever, and still goes trick or treating because he can (technically it's illegal for someone over 12 to trick or treat over here).

He also believes that stuff like lice and bedbugs are completely normal things to have. Actually came to campus with scabies and ringworm, and thinks the school was being annoying and petty for quarantining him for a week.

Needless to say, he has issues. And I can't change rooms because they overbooked the campus and there's no where to go. Other people who know him keep apologizing to me that I have to room with him.

I made none of that up.
#73 - evictedone (10/27/2014) [-]
The idea that a party can be labeled as "twerktacular" and actually get people to come does not leave a good impression of its attendees, it actually kinda scares me. Just wanted to get that little sentiment out of the way, so about that rant.

I'm a little lost as to what sort of response to put down when I imagine this roomie, of yours. More or less, I just imagine him fitting the profile of a stereotypical redneck taken to the logical extreme. Mind you, I've got issues with the "standard" variety that already walks around with the word "nigger" painting their lips as they talk about their jalopy of a truck like it's the Mona Lisa. So to add a bunch of little insects inhabiting their body surface in addition to these traits, plus drunkenness, I feel like I'd be in the same party as those who've been apologizing for you sharing a room with him.

Still, at some point I'm sure that those apologies gets old. Just, right down to business here, that guy sounds like crap. How the hell could he have made it to college if he doesn't even have a grasp of basic logic?! Covered in parasites, by definition the guy must've been a breeding ground for all manner of shit but the campus is overreacting because they know their shit and just how bad that can be? That's the part that leaves a scar on my retina.

Drinking, smoking; I've been around that crap most of my life, it's caused more mental scars than physical ones for me. Then again, I never drank, and my parents preferred smoking outside rather than in the house so yay(?). My brothers, however, 6 and 7 years older than me, loved drinking themselves out cold before they even hit high school. But this fucker you're talking about? Sounds a lot like'em, so consider me a bit biased when I say that I hope he doesn't wake up next time he gets plastered.

I can say a lot more, but there's a character limit and I'm sure there's a line that shouldn't be crossed. Zafara, bro, I'm wishing you well if that prick is a part of your life.

Last session my DM threw a bunch of wolves at us in the night. I have the ability to communicate simple ideas to animals, so I communicated "No fight, tonight our pack rests and does not hunt, share in the warmth of our fire and our food" and gave them some beef jerky, and they left.

DM was halfway between annoyed and impressed. He'd really wanted to use wolves in a fight, but he couldn't think of a reason that they'd stick around after that.

Was good fun.

A lot of the story involved more sarcastic banter that it did sincere negative emotions, like it turned out the whole "You don't get experience" thing was just a joke. He immediately took it back once d6s started to fly his way. We gave him some shit over how "needlessly specific" his storytelling got in the beginning, and he figured he'd be a smartass and get really vague towards the end. We figured out how inexperienced everyone was (turned out I was the only one who'd played extensively before) and just went with it.

I really wanted to put up with that military bs FJ has a thing for, but I just can't leave that one alone.

1. Freedom is a part of Human Rights, therefore they are, indeed, granted. You don't have to "deserve" it.
2. People who are productive to society can be perceived as ones deserving freedom more than ones who help in illegal invasions
3. Nowadays soldiers are fighting for their governments only, not for people. Every military intervention stirs up the public opinion of many countries involved, and occasionally lead to terrorist acts of people who get enough of this shit (notice US's aggressive behavior in 70s to 90s which resulted in 9/11 and other terrorist acts). So yeah, basically it's more like a part of a problem instead of a solution.

So the DMs say:

" we don't ever use a grid, however most DM's do, but those materials cost money so we don't. He's going to need percentile dice and a lot of D6 for character creation. He can always check the Forgotten Realms Wiki forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page for all those plots and info. If he wants he can always check to find the manuals for 3.5 (or SDR) online minus.com/mdnd35
as well (as that is the version that Forgotten Realms takes place in) There is also the DnD Wiki
www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page that we get a lot of our info from as well. Monster manuals aren't required cause all that info is online as well, he can also goggle some campaigns if he doesn't want to come up with things on the fly. And there is the online community Roll20 roll20.net/ . Hope that helps!"

It was great because they were actually discussing this during the session.

Wow. I didn't actually expect a response tonight. And this, right here, pretty much makes my day. Thanks for the reply, and for checking with your DMs. It helps a lot, and with a bit of luck, I might get the first campaign going sometime this or next week, so long as I can get a bit of planning going.

But, if you guys didn't use a grid, how did you keep track of distance, locations, placements, and the geography of the "map" you were playing on?
User avatar #8 to #7 - zafara ONLINE (10/12/2014) [-]
Glad to have been of some help!

It is generally the DM's job to keep track of distance, location, placements, and geography of the map. After all, it is your campaign, and you are running it. It takes a lot of planning to create a map, and you need to write a lot of stuff down. Grids are generally only useful for small areas, like a room or hallway, to display the location of enemies and players.

I guess you should start of simple, and build up to more complicated plans later on. When you get the hang of it, every action a character makes has a consequence, although it might not happen right away or even to them. For instance, if you bring the tiefling in your party to your hidden elf village, you will get banned from the village because IT'S A TIEFLING AND YOU LED IT TO THE VILLAGE OMGWTFBBQ! Or, if the characters manage to defeat an orc hoard a certain way, the elf village will get destroyed by Drow, whereas if they didn't then the DM could have skipped that plot point completely.

So, basically, you know those choose your own adventures books? That's what this is like. Only you, the DM, need to have the plot go off in a direction for every single decision the party makes or could make. This isn't something you can make up on the fly because it has to fit into the end of the campaign smoothly.

So, if the grid-based map isn't necessary, then it relies heavily on people's ability to project the scene themselves. At that point, though, do you just end up keeping character sheets for the enemies they face, so you can keep track of that stuff?

Heh, I'm never gonna run outta questions for this thing, and I'm sorry for that.

Oh no that's fine, question are good. Although it is 3 am so I might have to answer questions tomorrow.

The map does rely on your ability to project the scene.

But yes, you do need character sheets for every villain you make. Also NPC's, because sometimes they get into fights, or join the party. If a player isn't playing the NPC, then the GM plays that character as well as narrating. Non enemy animals too, if someone decides they want to hunt.

Eh, just start asking questions tomorrow and I'll get back to you. The stories I could tell about campaigns. I would have actually gotten back to you earlier last night but the elf ranger saw a giant bird and decided to kill it. It was a baby. Of a species that fires lightening. I had to hide under a covered wagon because my weapons are not ranged.

I actually got experience for being smart enough to do that.
