Our second guitarist has a Gibson Les Paul Classic from 1990 and I think it sounds even better than mine. At least it was totally worth the money. Guitars for 1000 are not the best thing anyway. Good Guitars for beginners go up to 700 or so. The real deal beginns with 1700+. Everything in between is halfbaked fish. Go big or go home.

The thing with a company like Ibanez, the higher up you go the better the quality of the tone woods you get, you get higher quality hardware, better pickups and the overall craftmanship is a lot better. With companies like Fender and Gibson it just seems like they use the same hardware, same pickups and same quality tone woods with their guitars wether you go for a 750$ Gibson or a 2K$ Gibson. And it's so rare you even get the oppotunity to go for a Neck-through construction with brands like those, no matter what you pay, you still get Gibsons tired old set-neck construction that has been around since the Les Paul was concieved in the 50's. And it's so fucking huge and limiting and clumsy that even Charvel's Bolt-on's kick the living shit out of them in terms of comfortability and playability. But that's just my opinion and everybody has every right to disagree if they feel any different.

I mean, just look at how fucking sexy that thing is. And those godly pickups... mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

> Look at pic
> see I got a V
> shut it

And look at the comments. No guitar is perfect. It's just your personal preference and the music you want to make.
User avatar #108 - darksideofthebeast (05/19/2015) [-]
Question: I've never liked the feeling of a flying V, how do you comfortably play it? And do you ever sit and play it?
User avatar #111 - spermanentthreat (05/19/2015) [-]
I like it, its a bit different but you get used to it real quick and in my opinion it's nice to have this extra piece to lean your arm on.

And i play very often while sitting. At home and during rehearsal. It's perfect, you can put it on your leg and the neck is in a nice angle. No problem there.

Plus: It just looks soooo goddamn hot!
User avatar #113 - darksideofthebeast (05/19/2015) [-]
Another question: how long have you been playing?
User avatar #121 - spermanentthreat (05/19/2015) [-]
Turned 21 three days ago so maybe 7 years. Self taught.
User avatar #124 - darksideofthebeast (05/19/2015) [-]
Ah nice. Happy late birthday man!
I'll have been playing for 7 years this christmas.
I'm 17 and also self taught too. Best way IMO. Then you can develop a different play style, you're not taught a certain style. Self taught, you can learn any scales you want any time and you can develop your own style that might not even be chained to a singular sound.
not trying to say self taught people are special snowflakes, just might view on it.
User avatar #126 - spermanentthreat (05/19/2015) [-]
Thanks man

Yup, I think a teacher can be good for the basic understanding of your instrument and firt contact. But everything above that should come from you. And I'm also talking bout the will to learn. Having a teacher you're forced to do stuff you're not really interested in. And that can be a bummer. Self teaching enables you to learn just exactly what you want to learn and thus helps you to create your own style.
User avatar #147 - darksideofthebeast (05/19/2015) [-]
Definitely agree, man.

Hm, I can see what you mean. They do look really nice, I just never liked the arch the neck has when sitting.
But then again, I never really sit on stools, I sit on my bed or on a chair so I guess that's my problem.
I could see those being really nice for shredding because they have a great angle when sitting for that.
But I sit like Robert fripp so that just feels really weird for me. Tried it once and I just could not stand sitting with it, it hurt my thigh, but that was a really long time ago so I may just be judging it like an asshole haha.
Pic related, it's Robert Fripp and him holding it the exact same way I do.
Again, it's all personal preference, not trying to debate it or anything, just trying to understand more about it.
User avatar #119 - spermanentthreat (05/19/2015) [-]
You can sit everywhere as long as your legs form a right angle and there's space between them. I sit on the edge of my bed for example. Just tried it again to make shure. I think its really comfortable.
Yep, shredding is really nice with that angle. Almost forces you to shred^^

Ah yes haha, no thats not possible with a V. You could try it again, but if its not your type of guitar, it just isn't. That's no problem

Sorry for being a dick, I'm annoyed at shit and took it out in the comments you're right, man. It IS personal preference and what music and sound you're going for and what type of feel you like in the guitar. Though I stand by my remark about buying a Les Paul over 750 bucks, above that and you're only really paying for the brand and that's silly.

I have an ibanez RG7321. It's awesome. I use it to mostly play dream theater and trivium songs and write my own stuff, but my main guitar is a cheap laguna. It feels the nicest. But I've always been a huge fan of ibanez. I have a few other guitars too, though. Not really worth mentioning.
