sirdood (12/31/2015) [-] Full-plate armor was only 15 - 22 kg (around 33 - 55 lbs) though. It was also evenly distributed across the entire body, so that the person wearing it still remained agile to the point where they could still jump, run, even do cartwheels uninterrupted. Videos here demonstrate pretty well how plate armor would basically do absolutely nothing to overall mobility. Full firefighter gear weighs around 32 kg (around 70 lbs). This is including the fireproof clothing (jacket, pants, boots, etc.) and all the other fancy electronic stuff they carry around (thermal cameras, flashlights, oxygen tank, you name it). Since most of this stuff is carried either on their hips or on their back (basically somewhere on the torso), I would argue that modern day firefighters are less mobile than a late-medieval set of full-plate armor. By comparison, the modern soldier (U.S. Marines, British soldiers, whatever) can expect to carry anywhere between 20 - 70 kg (around 50 - 150 lbs), with the same issue of loss in mobility that I stated above. Furthermore, that shield's thickness looks perfectly fine. Although it may look to be just a thin plank of curved wood, most shields were around that thickness anyway. In fact, most shields were made out of wood instead of metal, because a metal shield is heavy and was used only ceremonially. Shields were normally 5 - 10 kg (11 - 22 lbs, a bag of potatoes is around 10 lbs) with the express purpose of parrying rather than suffering a straight on blow. Even if the knight had to for whatever reason fully stop the attacker's strike, then the shield would obviously be easily damaged, but that's why they were made cheaply so as to be easily replaceable. After all, you've heard of swords being passed down the family line, but never shields, have you? All of this is combined with the fact that a knight in full-plate armor with his shield, lance, and sword has trained his entire life since boyhood to effectively wear and use all these things to the point where it is basically a second layer of skin. TL;DR: The notion that Medieval Europeans were anywhere near autistic enough to wear something they could barely move around in is an antiquated idea that started with weak ass faggots from the Renaissance that spent their days wiggling their dicks over the Illiad and giving women Atrophic Vaginitis. As thanks for taking the time to read this wall of text, take one my favorite wallpapers. #95 -
anon (12/31/2015) [-] btw bro shields were wooden with a leather cover and metal trimming mostly, just like armour, it is for glancing blows, rather than absorbing them, but you're basically right also for further note, tower shields are actually really good for charging with, angle it about -45 degrees or w/e and use it fuck up peoples shins (fyi that's what riot police do, not just speculation) source : in the riot police #29 -
anon (12/31/2015) [-] Most shields of roman make maxed out at 22 lbs. That's not that much and I wouldn't assume that medieval shields changed from that weight much.

| Thats what I was thinking when I saw it, it looks like something you would use in a line formation, but its thin. Plate was heavy too, I'm almost positive someone in full plate would not be able to lift a shield like the one I'm thinking of that high. #40 -

| A "skin" is a purchasable aesthetic change for Champions(playable characters) in League of Legends. Each champion has numerous different skins, and this one is the Dragon Tamer skin for the champion Tristana. This skin replaces her usual giant cannon with a baby dragon that shoots fireballs at command rather than cannonballs. The above clip is the animation that plays whenever Tristana dies in game while the skin is in use. So yeah every time you die with that skin you get Lion King'd. #239 -
epicactual (12/25/2015) [-] Nah its cool bro. See, in league, there are different "skins" for each champion that make them slightly different, you can think of them like...clothes I guess. One day I might want to wear a regular t-shirt, thats the default Tristana skin pic related , another day I might be getting ready for a family gathering so I put on the nicest shirt I have, hence the Rocket Girl Tristana skin, another day I may be feeling like a dragon costume would be pretty dank, thats the Dragon Tamer Tristana

Yeah bro, we could do that. We'd have to plan it out though, I got some people I talk to regularly and I'm starting a job on Monday, but I'm sure we could pull off a game or two
Well **** , that could complicate things. I am from Europe, you see. Day and night could be a problem.
Right now it's 21:36, and I live in the Netherrealm Netherlands. How late is it in Texas?
7 hour time difference. Could be worse. If I were to be able to play in the evenings, we could play.
When do you normally play? I'm starting a job tomorrow, but I like staying up ridiculously late.
Well, I'm a student and the next 5 weeks I will have summer vacation. I basically have every hour of the day, except for about 10 hours.
And what is the new job? Accountant? Engineer? Cook? Tell me.

Good on you, man. My first job was paperboy. Didn;t hold it longer than 8 motnhs or so though, because I had to focus on school. Also, what is a busboy?
I'm pretty sure a busboy is someone who goes from table to table and cleaning them up. Ya know , talking the dining ware and such. Also, yeah I'm not sure I'll be able to keep the job when school starts again. But, for now, its a summer job so I'm excited
Yeah. I should also seek a summerjob, but I am kind of a little bit way too late with it. Most jobs will probably be taken.
Oh **** ! I thought I replied! Damnit Fj! Yeah, I grabbed this job because I figured all the others woulbe taken by college kids coming home, and a family friend was friends with the manager

I hope that if I can still find a job, I hope it's outside. Nothign worse than to be forced inside when the sun is shining. Makes me crazy.
Really? I'm a bit of an introvert. But the way I look at it, a jobs a job, and I'm a teenager so I can save up most of what I earn
Yeah, I am a bit of an introvert as well, but still. Outside works is usually good for people. It's usually stuff like digging, chopping wood, building stuff, you know? Physically intensive stuff often.
Ok, I'm a bit new to steam and the like, how do I join a game?
And it is done. I may not be abel to play for long, however, but I will try to play for as long as possible.
Cool. My name is dutchspetzna/insanity sparkling. I'll try to add you.
Oh ahit, I was taking a bath. But I can actually play right now
Anyway, what is your steam name?
Anyway, what is your steam name?
Ha, guess you guys have different mentality over there. But yeah, working outsides probably healthier anyway. Don't suppose you could play a game of civ now? I usually browse Fj or something else when I play
