I went to a small private school and they had about 10 people in the entire grade. The clicks were so tight and i was a weird kid back then.
The best way to get over it is just to get out there bit by bit. I went to McDonalds to buy a single cheeseburger just so i could talk to people in line and learn how to make small talk and engage strangers. Being socials like using a muscle, you have to start small and strengthen yourself for big stuff. After years of being an awkward pile of weird i became a sociable enough guy who can chat with girls and even have girlfriends. You can be the social butterfly you've always wanted to be but you got to get out there. Try joining a hobbyist group that meets regularly or get a job where you have to talk to customers. You'll be great

I don't think you understand the basis behind art major stereotypes. It's not that people can't get jobs or make money with art related degrees, it's that because there's a surplus of art majors and not enough jobs to accommodate them. The job growth is poor, and the pay range is weak. The reason Arts departments are always the first to receive budget cuts is because based off of the current and expected job growth expectations. People give art majors shit because it's their choice to pursue higher risk degrees, but a lot of them just bitch and moan about not being able to get jobs when it's no-ones fault but theirs.

Art major covers a fucking wide range of topics.
Sport science? Check.
Language studies? Check
I'm not trying to defend myself studying an Arts degree, I'm doing a BComm myself, but I know people doing Arts degrees studying above topics.

Wow, arts majors spend as much time working on defending their majors as they do on their thesis

I'm pretty sure the stereotype is that art degrees are worthless because its so hard to get a good job with them. Not about you making weird art. that's why you are going into advertising, trying to make a career out of drawing what you want is almost impossible, and that is what people actually want to do. Its like being an actor or author, lots of people want to do it, but its too focused on luck, even if you are great at it.

Unfortunately, from having worked in the industry, I can tell you right here and now: artists are't worth shit in the ad biz. The only ones anybody cares about are the rain-makers. The smooth talkers. The fuckers with no morals who talk suckers into becoming your agency's clients. Account mangers is what they're often called.
And because the average add-agency customer is an absolute retard, with no idea about how advertising really works, they have no way of telling if the shitty ad you came up with is good or bad. The account manager already convinced him it's amazing. So... yeah. Good luck with your degree, but don't assume the ad industry is going to receive you with open arms. Sure, you'll have a paycheck, but at the end of the day you'll be the first one canned if the company goes in the shitter.

Well, as long as you dont study some bullshit like "communications", we're cool.
I think its much more dependant on your additude once you hit the job market, than it is your major. I study advanced physics and mathmatics, which not alot of people do, so I have a certain degree of faith, that my skills will be in somewhat short supply. I think I might be able to relax alittle more when looking for a job, whereas somebody with a humanitarian degree - or god forbid, the afformentioned communications majors - will be in much larger supply and much smaller demand, so they might have to try a bit harder.
