I wanted to make some since I was in welding at the time, there was a ton of rusty iron and aluminum I could have used, but my science teacher told me I'd get in a lot of trouble haha

It's pretty hard to get the powder fine enough, but I don't know about trouble, it's so easy to get the ingredients that it's not a controlled substance. Just don't do anything stupid with it

Figures. It's amusing just how easy it is to make thermite though, all you need is aluminum and an oxide of any less-reactive metal (usually iron), and if you powder it enough the chemistry just does the rest, dirt cheap.

In America maybe, but in Denmark around 1% of your tax money goes to something called "bistandshjælp," where the absolutely poorest people is helped out with around 1000$ a month. Meanwhile around 20% of the taxmoney goes to the elderly. So as you can see, (although i don't know about America) money to the "poor" isn't as much as one would think. Mainly what the guy below me said.
User avatar #261 - emrakul (08/21/2013) [-]
Alright, I was looking from an American perspective. I'm not surprised that Denmark has the whole thing much better organized than we do. In America, government benefits have been tangled in politics and are basically used to buy votes, so half of our money goes directly to providing free services because politicians are awful.

Most of which goes to elders (retirees and their spouses) and disabled people. The ones who aren't in that bracket are usually the most destetute and genuinely need the help - only a small percentage of people on welfare are actually cheating the system.
