The only part that's directly stated is that they went East into the lands controlled by Sauron and never returned and that Maiar are immortal. Judging from Sauron's personality (see The Silmarilion), the rest is just my speculation, but I feel it's the logical outcome.

The Maiar are immortal, and the two blue ones were never heard of again after they went East, and the East is under Sauron's control. So whether willingly or not, they were clearly kept there by Sauron, and Sauron probably wouldn't waste the potential abilities of two Maiar.

I do read the manga and love it, but if the anime's in the same style and quality as the OVA was, I'm not gonna bother with the anime at all, so I guess I'll just watch 1 or 2 eps of it some or other time to check.
