Yeah, they made Gohan 3 years older in the English dub (making him 20 in high school, kek), so your confusion about his age is understandable. He was 10 when he beat Cell, but the English dub made him 13. Also I was referring to in-story time, not on-screen time. The part on Namek probably wasn't more than a couple of minutes, but the others were longer

Gohan was 4 in the start of DBZ so he did spend 4 years with him when he was born. Still, he was gone most of Gohan's life.
