The reason I wouldn't pick air is because it's not as combat heavy as the other elements.
But it does have other good uses like transportation.

people seem to forget that amon bending stealing powers are more like that of ty lee's
by pressing the certain pressure points of a human's body it disrupt that individual's chi flow and temporarily paralyze them, which cause them unable to bend
in this case amon press the individual's head down as his spine can feel the shock make him unable to bend for a long time or maybe forever
