The first episode I saw was "The Doctor's Wife," it made me get into the show. From then, I started with 9 all the way up. He was the currant doctor when I started. And even though I adored Nine and was smitten with Ten (as most were), when Eleven came along, he just had that special feel. He was odd, eccentric, he did not care how mad he seemed, and he just had such a good time being that mad man (not to say that the others did not as well). It is hard to explain, but I do not think I connected the same way emotionally to the others. He just feels like MY Doctor. The crazy professor who always finds a way, no matter what the odds, and he is never unkind. Nine and Ten both had that darkness. But Eleven was able to be a badass (like the challenge for someone to take the Pandorica from him) without that aggression, it just seems so perfect. And, I know if it was not for Ten going (which I also bawled at, who didn't?), we would not have him. I hear wonderful things about Capaldi, but, I just do not know. Capaldi seems so serious, and that scares me. I want to remember him just as he is now. I do not want that to change, I love his personality, his energy. Sometimes change is not easy to take because you do not know what is coming. I feel like a piece of me is going to die, like how Ten explained that even though he will still be The Doctor, it is like dying and a new man saunters away.
I am scared of the change. I only hope those speaking well of Capaldi are right. Everyone has their time, and I accept that. But it still hurts. Sorry, you must think I am crazy.

If you watched the 50th anniversary, you'll see why the change is necessary.
The 'warrior doctor' references it twice in the show. 1. he asks if he's having some kind of mid life crisis because two of his regenerations are young and handsome men where most, in the past, have been older gentlemen. 2. He asks why the two younger doctors have such a hard time with thinking about being old.
Well it's because their last 'old' doctor killed the Time Lords. All the children. They never want to relate back to that man again. So they become young, fun, heroes who just want to explore and impress companions. Not serious old men.
But after the climax of the 50th, they realize Hurt's Doctor wasn't evil. Infact, they saved the day with him. So, the next regeneration, they can go back to being The Doctor as a more serious and older gentleman. It's brilliant.

Yeah, we get attached. When they first announced Capaldi I was like NOPE. DO NOT WANT. NO. But now I've had time to come to terms with it. I loved the childlike brilliance that Matt brought to the role as well, but some of my favourite moments were when the Doctor got angry. Suddenly we get to see the 1200 years of pain and anger and watching lives come and go and power... that, to me, is really something. I think we might get more of that intensity from Capaldi, and I don't think it will be a bad thing. I don't think they'll lose the humor though, don't you worry about that! The best episodes make you laugh ten seconds before you're hiding behind your couch in fear. lol Don't be afraid of the changes! We just celebrated 50 years of Doctor Who. It's shifted and changed so much over the last several decades, and will continue to do so. But at it's core it's still the same. =)
