| Eh, half sarcastic. What I meant was, other versions of the Bible "paraphrase" verses with the goal of being more understandable, but sometimes change the meaning of the verse. Sure they say about the same, but the KJV version is the exact meaning #73 -
anon (07/18/2015) [-] well, considering that the sitch was that these women in question were basically bullhogging the worship services... It says "a woman" in both. That means any women, not these particular women. It means it's not because of their actions, but because they were women. This is confirmed by the passage about the snake and the apple and yadda yadda, saying it's women's fault because they are women. | Not really. Besides, we know the Bible is not the word of any god through many other means. Wouldn't you prefer to know the truth though? Science has destroyed the Bible and so there's no reason to follow it. Societies flourish when there is less religion so let's work on improving an already pretty good world we have here in the West. Nigger what? Religion is what MADE society. I already know what you call the truth but I can see past that. How do you live without the hope of something more? Is the world a bland picture with no beauty to you? Have you ever seen a sunset/rise and just marvel in the pure majesty of it all? How can you see all the beautiful things in this world without seeing that God IS real and he has made everything for our enjoyment? Religions have played a large role in controlling people throughout the millennia certainly, but we no longer have any need for them as a society. Jest because a sunset is beautiful does not mean that your god or any other made it. Life is what you make of it- there are millions of happy people without a belief in any god. Then be happy and leave the rest of us that are happy believing in God alone It's important that everyone is educated about how the world really is so that we can make the best choices for everyone. Don't forget that the Bible had been used as an excuse for slavery, genocide and sexism throughout the ages. Freedom of speech for the win. So because I believe in God I have no idea how the world works? Because I only have enough room in my brain for one complex issue at a time like you? The Constitution has been an excuse for slavery and sexism as well, not just the Bible. There's a little something called freedom of religion as well? Or is that not how the world really works? I'm not talking about the constitution. The Bible openly condones slavery and treats women as the property of men. This book is obviously written by bronze/iron age people and is not divinely inspired. Again, all of the instances you are talking about rely on context. But maybe you'd know that if you took the time to actually look in the Bible instead of just google-searching "things wrong with Bible". You are just arguing to argue and are too stubborn to listen or let us agree to disagree. Talk all you want, my God is smiling down at me, can you say the same Imperial? There is no out of context stuff where god is straightforwardly commanding people to rape, murder and enslave, etc. You claim there is a god yet there is no evidence at all for his existence. You simply have an old book of myths that you've been led into believing are actually real. It's the oldest trick that has been used by human civilization since it's inception. Sorry, your god is not smiling down on anyone. All of these are little bits that are cut from a larger message, you can't just take those out of context. #113 -
badhatharry (07/18/2015) [-] I didn't wanna post a better quality image because the expansion would be huge on FJ. Check out this link to see all the contradictions: atei.st/src/1326784181948557.gif. I have nothing against religion or religious people but the bible is very contradictory, #125 -
anon (07/18/2015) [-] most of these are minor and can be explained. most of the serious ones can be explained as well. if you want to see contradictions, you will see contradictions. if you want to believe in god, then you will. nobody is going to change your mind except yourself. christian missionaries don't force people into christianity, because that would never work. they let people come to them, those who want to believe it's said that no single man will ever fully understand the bible, even after dedicating a lifetime to its study. many scholars have been studying the bible for thousands of years. there is still mystery. that's why it's called "faith" besides, even if there was undeniable proof that god exists, people would still choose to ignore it anyways. early in the bible when god was still active in the universe, people still actively chose not to believe and to disobey him. hell, there's undeniable proof about many scientific claims and people still choose to not believe stuff as simple as that "early in the bible when god was still active in the universe, people still actively chose not to believe and to disobey him. " >using fiction to argue how people would act in real life Shame on you, anon "there's undeniable proof about many scientific claims and people still choose to not believe stuff as simple as that" There's a difference between some theory that may be hard to understand, and a big wizard in the sky saying "hi there little fella" #163 -
anon (07/19/2015) [-] >some theory that may be hard to understand I'm pretty sure he's referring to people like the complete autists that still think the Earth is flat, despite you know, having a fucking picture of our spherical Earth from the god damn International Space Station Perhaps, but he didn't feel like specifying anything before running the fuck away In the 10 commandments it states you should not kill anyone yet in Deuteronomy 13:13-19 it states that if in a village a man ecourages people to worship other gods, YOU HAVE to kill every person in the village and lifestock and burn all the plunder from it. You might say that that's in the old testament and dosn't count and while Jesus did say that, he also said in Matthew 5:17-19 that all the old laws will count until heaven and earth goes away. First off, I would not say that, I think the Old Testament matters very much. The village mentioned in this section is a village that has "withdrawn the inhabitants of their city" and is serving other gods. It also states that the Israelites should make an effort to investigate this city to see if the entire city is serving other gods. Now, Israel was a feared nation in those times because people knew that their God fought with them. For a city to go to these extends they would HAVE to be "children of Belial", or the Devil. The Israelites didn't kill everyone because they wanted to, they had to. It wouldn't work out any other way so the excuse goes, he can do anything he wants because he's God. Honestly, I think he exists, but he's not a part of any religion or belief that has ever or will exist. I think in the early years he did get involved, and his involvement, though was helpful at the time, fucked shit up royally around the world in the long run. What with the millions killed in his name there in and after. If I was trying to fix stuff, and every time I tried, even if I thought it worked out, became a thousand times worse, I'd stop being involved entirely as well. He probably tried to do some form of apology too, in the form of Jesus, maybe, but an apology from a God can not only be taken the wrong way, but even warped in the wrong hands. I think God has either sworn off getting involved in anything anymore because of past mistakes, which any being, all powerful or otherwise, can make, or Jesus was him making himself mortal, and paying for the millions of deaths he accidental brought with his own, and that he himself, has literally died. Though, if he ruled the afterlife in any way, shape, or form, I can only imagine the sheer hell hole that place must be if this were the case. I could easily see him giving rule to someone he himself trusts, but I can't see anyone doing that long term without snapping after a thousand or so years. Just imagine knowing all the atrocities this world has made, all the dead and forgotten, and so on. Dead babies beaten to death or lift in garbage bins, woman abducted and murdered in captivity never being found and again, forgotten. Blehk, the more I think about a God and giving him mortal way of thinking, the more I realize how fucked we could be. Hell, make him a tyrant who fears the power of immortal souls, and you got an excuse for the many religions that exist. To keep these immortal souls in a permanent conflict about him and who he is. A little affirmation from their believed to be God, a little coercion on why the other souls exist, and then weeding out the "Unbelievers" or people who see the shit for how it is, and locking them away in a religion meant to be watched and hated by all, and you have a permanent solution to the problem that could be humanity.... Ill make a TLR for you. Either he's a tyrant, or he's dead, or he's sworn off getting involved at all. There you go. thanks i dont have a problem with people who believe in god, i just have a problem with the people who blindly follow god like some kind of fuckin cult. the moment they bring up christianity im just like"im out of the conversation" and that sassy ass fuckin way they go"what are you, ATHIEST?" like im some fucking murderer. You see, that's why I think the tyrant thing could easily be true.... So if you don't know them yourself, yet claim there are.... k I think you're talking about when God told the Israelites to kill everyone already in the Promised Land? They were told to wipe everyone out because, to paraphrase, they were a lost cause. They were evil people who lived and bred with the Niphilim. | ||
