The word "after school" doesnt really translate all that well, its basically just a direct translation of the components that make up the word in Danish. The Danish language is kinda funky.

Basically, from 8th grade to 10th, your kids have the option of attending a "live in" school, with something akin to college dorms. It basically just regular school with a more social atmosphere. Parents have to pay though, since its only partially covered by the government (afaik)

I took 10th grade like this and was really sad at the end of the year that I didnt do 9th as well. Lots of fond memories. People were bawling their eyes out on the last day.

So basically its really not much like high school or college, its sort of its own thing.

afterschool is basically just normal school stepped up a notch, since you come there AFTER you are done with school. only if you want to though. you can also just go to high school. but other than that its what the afterschool images. nothing else special really
