Max was an Australian Interceptor, he was a cop who chased down crooks and fast drivers on the road with his interceptor car, but one day while his wife and young kid were out they were killed on purpose and they killed his best friend cop too. So he went rouge and tracked them down, killed them or made them kill themselves. Then the world got even crazier and turned into the desert land where he basically turned into the lone wanderer, trying to stay away from everyone but helping out now and again for supplies.
