Giraffe has an e at the end, too; that's the thing about English, few of the "rules" actually work, as much of spelling has nothing to do with pronunciation and everything to do with scholars wanting words to look Greek-esque.

You do realise that the "uh" in "duh"comes from pronouncing the "u" in "dungeon", right? Using the starting letter alone, hell the starting sound, it's just "d" - the other guy didn't argue "it G for Graphics so obviously you pronounce it as Grr" therefore it is intellectually dishonest to counter his point as if that were his argument.

The only reason people think it is pronounced "jif" is because the fucktard who coined the term said so - he is no linguistic authority, there is no established rule to say it should be this way or that.

The giraffe bullshit? Yeah, how do you pronounce "give"? To you say "jive"? Of course you fucking don't, that's a different word for a start. Halfarsed logic that has no factual basis should be left out, especially when it is so easily countered with mirrored bullshit.

im say its the letter not the sound of the word - graphics starts with a hard g not a grr

give is a hard g because of the e at the end

You can't even compare the two.

And if so by that logic, you'd say GIF like gee-aye-eff if you're pronouncing each letter. Then you might aswell pronounce graphics as jiraffics.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_acronyms:_G

Look at a couple of acronyms that begin with a G, you'll see it varies depending on the context the G-word is used in. In the case of GIF it's Graphics, so it doesn't mean shit that the creator says it's "jif", it's just not correct.

GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format.

And how is the G in graphics pronounced?

it is prounced as d the letter not 'duh' like at the start of dungeon

its letter based not based on the word its from, otherwise it would duh'n'dee
