She is being incredibly rude by standing in the public square half naked.

Sure, it may be rude. It might not be ethical to take someone's picture and then publish it on the internet, but she kind of needs to accept that it's going to happen. It's a consequence of doing something stupid. I have no problems with what I'm seeing here.

It might not be nice, but it's true. Stupidity is the only universal crime.

Accepting that people will be rude and accepting rudeness is not the same thing, i accept that violence is a part of this world, does not mean i accept violence, you should always be the change you want to see in this world and if you constantly think you shouldn't do anything about violence because it just is, you are a part of the problem. I don't think making a shirt of somebody without their permission is appropriate, but if you want to do it, go for it, but i will criticize it, that's what actual freedom of expression is for, it's not to be allowed to be rude and hateful but be allowed to criticize.

this isnt about rape or beating people up, its about being naked in the middle of the street. And even then, how would you even begin to control that? its like when Shakira wanted that picture off the internet. It doesnt work. Youre changing this into things that it isnt. She wants to be looked at, and im sure she would love it to have pictures of her reblogged on tumblr, and im definitely sure she intended to be seen and photographed. What people do to that picture is what happens when you do stuff like that. They put it on t shirts, they make parodies of it, and those use it to make fun of people like her. Welcome to the internet.

I do think its rude, but thats what you get for standing half naked in the square. Living in a digital world and not expecting to be photographed and put on the internet when you stand in the middle of public like that is bing pretty stupid.
User avatar #7 - drekinn (10 hours ago) [-]
Hmm i don't know, that doesn't sound very logical. this, "you had it coming" mentality is pretty stupid. "you wore a small skirt, of course you got raped" like it's somehow justifiable, that people don't actually control their own actions, they just do things that are expected of them. like would it hold up in a court of law that you beat someone up because he had a "kick me" shirt on?

Pictures of you naked while sleeping are far different from a woman standing in protest in public.
#37 - lilyaoming (4 hours ago) [-]
i get your point but you're incorrect because the example you use is inaccurate. An accurate comparison would be if i was wearing no shirt on top of a pedestal for everyone to see and then they put me on a shirt. i wouldn't feel oppressed, i'd enjoy the publicity actually
#35 - fefe (4 hours ago) [-]
Yea but when it's fake and drawn you know it's 10x more worst than rape.

#27 - fefe (6 hours ago) [-]
You sleep naked with the intention that people will see? And you feel empowered by that? I see you also conveniently changed the setting. If promoting her message is viewed as oppression, then she is oppressing anyone who feels the same way as her. She is publicizing other people's beliefs, after all.
User avatar #19 - admiralloli (8 hours ago) [-]
to me there is a difference with being in public, and your house getting broken into, but asides from that i agree with you
User avatar #14 - thelastamerican (9 hours ago) [-]
She was in public though. Anything you do in public is public domain. If I take a picture of you looking at your phone while walking down the road and it's got hardcore gay porn on it there is literally nothing you can do about it. If I broke into your house and took a picture of you making a hardcore gay porn then you could probably get away with shooting me in the face.

Personally I'm not sure why people are surprised. She was trying to get attention. She knew people were going to take pictures of her. And we're all supposed to sit here and debate on weather or not she should be able to tell people what they can and can't do with a picture of her?

No. This isn't a debate we have to work our way through because it boils down to freedom of speech and expression. She is free to speak her mind, and I'm free to express myself by making a T shirt with her on it.
User avatar #15 - drekinn (9 hours ago) [-]
I was merely making a point on how intrusive it can be when someone uses your photo without your permission, it's not comparable because legally you can't take pictures of people in their own home, but i think the principle still applies, legal or not that having your picture taken and used without your permission is rude and disrespectful, just because something is legal does not make it okay. my point is not to fight against photographers taking pictures of people in public, i do that all the time, i work as a photographer, but i ask people if i can use it, just a gesture of kindness, my point is on humanity not legality.

Yeah but whoever models for a t-shit is at least telling whoever made the t-shirt that she's okay with this.
User avatar #8 - pennydragon (10 hours ago) [-]
Oh I agree, people have a right to their image generally and that shouldn't be put on t-shirts and sold without their permission. But the debate isn't about that.

The debate is generally about artistic freedom versus media "corrupting minds".

There are some people who believe that pretty female characters (either portrayed by an actress/model or created by an artist) that one could find sexually enticing will cause others to see women as nothing more than that. There are some people who think that these images as a whole may shift society's standards of beauty.
User avatar #25 - cackrel (6 hours ago) [-]
An artist's desire to do shit shouldn't outweigh peoples personal safety.
You're not an artist if you put someones face on a T-Shirt, you're a fucking creeper.

Yeah it's fine for you to have empathy for this woman. I agree with you that her image shouldn't be sold for money, and her privacy shouldn't be unnecessarily infringed upon, but putting it online for this joke or making a meme of it? Eeeeh, that's a different kettle of fish.

I feel like sexy women are just collateral damage. What they're about is making all women (just women) feel beautiful and bullying people into giving special treatment for women to make them feel beautiful and removing things that make them insecure.

Rather than deal with being imperfect, they want feminism and politics to change the world so they don't have to change or grow up.

Well this is different because she isnt in her house she is outside standing on the fucking square half naked. She wants to be looked at. Unfortuneatley when you are naked in public, you dont get to decide on what terms you are gawked at, because your naked in fucking public.
User avatar #5 - drekinn (10 hours ago) [-]
Yeah, but who do you think should control how a picture of YOU should be used? you or anybody that wants to? shouldn't people have a right to their own image? not like legally, i mean if she's in public she's in public and i should be able to photograph her but like socially, don't you think it's just rude to use someones image without their permission?
User avatar #6 - spceinvdr (10 hours ago) [-]
