That's not always true, the only thing that affects how much for it is the supply, when there's more money to be made in a business supply increases. Unless there are regulations, in the underground drug business there is a lot of money to be made and NO regulations, except maybe getting killed, legalizing marijuana makes it easy for the drug to be obtained nearly eliminating the drug dealers from society, except for the 21 year old brother giving pot to his younger brother, but that's just a 21 year old to his brother. The unbiased drug dealers are the ones that get to our youth and there wouldn't be enough money for them to stay in the game if it were legal and they would no longer be at the schools to try to sell weed. Maybe if your kid was friends with someone who has an older brother they would be exposed, but you seem like a smart person, your child will be smart and wouldn't experiment until he was of age, at LEAST.

User avatar #171 - abcdoremi (11/07/2012) [-]
Yea because the prohibition of alcohol worked SO well, and people will DEFINITELY stop smoking cigarettes if you make them illegal. That would single-handedly fuck our country over. What do you care if John down the street tokes up every now and then? It's more likely for the drug to get to your kids when it's illegal then when it's legal for people over 21.
User avatar #191 - kayen (11/07/2012) [-]
Maybe smokers won't stop smoking but atleast they wouldn't be able to stand infront of me in queues polluting my already astma corrupted lungs.
User avatar #296 - abcdoremi (11/07/2012) [-]
Sorry about the asthma but you should be more worried about cigarette smoke, people who smoke weed aren't typically big enough dicks to blow it right in your face, and most people won't light up in public anyways. Besides the same laws that apply to cigarette smoke will probably apply to marijuana smoke as well.
User avatar #852 - kayen (11/08/2012) [-]
I was talking about cigarette smoke and the scenario that smoking cigarettes would be illegal.
User avatar #188 - mynameisgeorge (11/07/2012) [-]
Actually Prohibition did exactly what it was designed to do, which is decrease alcohol consumption, and it did by 30 -50%.

Despite the fact that it didn't eliminate alcoholism altogether, Prohibition did sharply curb the number of deaths and arrests related to alcohol, which is what they wanted in the first place.
But what about all the organized crime that suddenly appeared along with Prohibition? Well actually, it didn't. Organized crime existed at pretty much the same level as before, during and after Prohibition.

Nor can it be said to have been a more violent time -- the murder rate actually leveled off during Prohibition. But really, the repeal had little to do with any perception that Prohibition had failed. It had much more to do with the fact that we simply changed our mind. You know, like in a democracy.
Courtesy of Cracked.

And the reason people care why "John down the street tokes up every now and then" it is pretty fucking sad to see people reduced to altering their minds and sedating themselves to enjoy something. The same applies to alcohol. When is the last time you heard someone say "Wow Joe is smart when he's high/drunk" unless the person saying it was under the influence of something.

And before you say "well people talk about philosophy and intellectual topics while high/drunk", to a sober person, they sound like fucking retards.

#198 - horaquan (11/07/2012) [-]
Needing to do something, and just enjoying something are two different things.

People aren't "reduced" to smoking weed, they just enjoy it. As long as someone isn't abusing a substance and/or harming/harassing other people when intoxicated, nobody has the right to judge them for it or tell them it's wrong.

If someone takes a drug responsibly, for enjoyment, with or without other people, then it isn't sad, they're just enjoying themselves. It's like saying "it's sad to see people reduced to playing video games just to enjoy themselves."
User avatar #202 - mynameisgeorge (11/07/2012) [-]
Video games don't put you into an alternate state of mind and block natural and necessary inhibitions that you have while you are sober.

If you have no major psychological problems that is.
#208 - horaquan (11/07/2012) [-]
But it's enjoyable, they're doing it for enjoyment, not for a need.

Someone could argue that if you play video games, it's because you want to reject reality, but would fucking stupid, and that's why saying people are "reduced" to smoking weed is fucking stupid.

The number of arrests decreased because people were being more careful now that alcohol was illegal, and to say organized crime didn't increase is just mind boggling to me where did you get that information? A lot of people who ran saloons before prohibitions began to sell alcohol illegally, a lot of them weren't arrested because many police officers weren't for prohibition but that doesn't mean it wasn't there.

Sure there was less drinking but had prohibition existed longer I would place money that the percentage of Americans drinking would have increased.

But what about the effect it had on the economy? People who could normally afford food and liquor were now spending all their money on liquor due to the inflation of the price. The government lost a LOT of tax revenue and they had to spend even more on the enforcement of prohibition.

People changed their mind for a reason it didn't work. Plain and simple.

I respect your opinion and all but no way am I reading all that. I understand that for you it is probably more important for violence to lower and for people to stop getting intoxicated, but I believe it is better to let people do what they want and let the economy benefit from it. If you don't want to drink or smoke then good for you, be drug free and be proud! But don't force your opinion onto John, that makes you no better than those religious nutbags forcing their religion down your throat.
User avatar #177 - dreek (11/07/2012) [-]
i do not see how that could be true, if drugs legal that means there would be more of it, which means it would be easier for children to get there hands on it

Oh I see, you're against all drug use? Well, I guess that's your opinion haha! But to be honest, I see no problems with marijuana! It's not an addictive substance and the only negative side effect is supposed paranoia, which can actually be traced back to stress from the user being in fear of being caught with the substance, so legalising it would remove this stress.
