They aren't faked.
The guy is, contrary to what it may seem like, actually pretty knowledgeable about electronics. He knows exactly what would kill him and what just hurts like a bitch. And he obviously doesn't do the shit that could kill him.
The amount of power he uses sometimes can be dangerous, but in those cases he doesn't use it in ways that are actually dangerous. You could die from the shock from a 9v battery if the power goes through your veins through your heart, IE current going from one open wound in your left hand to an open wound in right hand , or survive the power from 230v AC IE if it's going over a short distance across skins away from organs depending on the circumstances.
A comparison could be that you could drown in less than 5 liters of water if you'd use it in the "right" way, or easily survive swimming in a pool with thousands of liters of water. It all depends on how you use the electricity/water. As long as you know what you're doing you're safe.

Since his vids are pretty popular, he's simply making money off of his knowledge and hopefully his tolerance for pain.
