In fairness, the USSR did help those people, but they did some terrible shit to their own people and those Germans who were captured.
I'll say before i post these facts, no one can agree how many people Stalin killed, but the average seems to be around twenty million. Some say many more, others say many less.
The Cuban missile crisis was partially America's fault, but the Russians gave the oder to FIRE nukes at the USA from a nuclear sub, but the fact that the captain refused the order until the general cleared his head saved the world.
Americas red scare was extreem, but understandable given the times. Communism in itself isn't bad, but those who were communist leaders at the time sure were.
You said atheists were peaceful, i responded with a primarily atheist government who not only drove their country into the ground, but killed quite a few people while doing it.

Actually the USSR was quite prosperous during its time, again this is post-Stalin. I'll agree that they did fucked up things under him, but thats like saying all germans are bad because Hitler was crazy.

Cuban Missile crisis was totally instigated by America, and the response to the USSR saying "dudes take those nukes out of turkey or we are going to put nukes in Cuba" was to blockade Cuba with military ships? What did you think was going to happen? a Tea Party?

The Red Scare was totally not justified in any way shape or form, Look at the media today with 9/11 and how it has affected the minds of America towards muslim people. Even the mention of anything Muslim draws immediate hostility in most communities now. Even tho Muslim people as a whole are not violent its the extremists and Jihadists that ruin it for everyone.

I'll leave you with this, Since christians seem to be more peaceful, How many atheists have lynched black people (KKK)? How many Atheists have protested and spit on military members (WBC)?

I never said Christians were peaceful, just that not all atheists are peaceful.
And even after Stalin, the communist leaders of Russia were stroking war boners while their country starved. Corruption and brutality were still present, but just not on the scale of Stalin
The red scare wasn't justified, but was understandable. The Russians and Americans were at each others throats and almost killed every one.
The nuke silos were on Cuba, so we did the logical thing and tried to prevent any more nukes to get that close to america. And yes, we put nukes in Turkey, which started the whole Crisis, but that wasn't a terrible choice

Atheists? Peaceful?
USSR, atheist state, killed millions, sent millions more to gulags, almost sent the world into nuclear winter.
#107 - dotasaurus (12/26/2012) [-]
Do you know anything about the USSR or the Cold War?

Yes we as americans were at war with the USSR, and yes it was an atheist state, but if you actually read anything on the history of the communist party since 1953 (when stalin died) Gulags were disbanded, the people were reestablished in their homes, and reperations were given to the families who had lost people. the term is De-stalin-ize (weird phrase but it's there in history books).

The Cuban missle crisis was a direct response to America putting Nuclear missles in Turkey...why are we allowed to instigate but they are suddenly monsters?

Come on dude, History always favors the winners, America "won" the Cold war, so now suddenly the USSR is monstrous. What about all the countries they helped recover from WW2 (Warsaw pact, Counsel for Mutual Economic Assistance)?

We were at war with them, propaganda was abundant in the time. mccarthyism and the Red Scare ring a bell? we had americans getting "detained" just cuz people said "that guys a commie"....dont be ignorant, look at both sides of the coin.

I'm not a christian.

And plenty of atheists do crazy shit, too.

Don't discriminate.

I'm sorry about your situation; don't fucking justify all actions of atheists. Not all atheists are fucking godlike geniuses that want only the best for the world.
#108 - dotasaurus (12/26/2012) [-]
Your absolutely right, some atheists are crazy as fuck....However the Majority I've seen and met are peaceful, nice, respectful people...Just look at The Thinking Atheist. Seth has always been a mentor for me because he goes about his arguements in a logical tone.

But, he's always accused of being "condescending" or "abusive". Just because people (read Christians) dont like the logic. It's a point of view thing, We do not regard ourselves as Militant or condescending, we are just trying to show everyone logic and reason. But, people (read Christians) do not like logic and reason, so they get butthurt and flame us for being mean.
#119 - soluvy (12/27/2012) [-]
Logic and reasoning don't necessitate being an ass to someone. Making broad, generalizing statements doesn't really follow any logic or reasoning.
#122 - dotasaurus (12/27/2012) [-]
Just like how Christians make broad generalizing statements about atheists? This is circular logic, you can claim atheists are assholes, then i'll say christians are assholes.

We are getting nowhere in this arguement.

nice dodge on the USSR rebuttal tho.
#131 - soluvy (01/01/2013) [-]
There, check that rebute
#129 - soluvy (12/27/2012) [-]
I didn't claimed atheists were assholes, i claimed YOU were being an asshole.
and i quote "Why is Prayer more important to you christian fuckheads then actually learning?" or" just because people (read Christians) dont like the logic"
Those are broad generalizing statements.
Nothing circular about that.

#123 - dotasaurus (12/27/2012) [-]
Wish i could edit posts but something occurred to me while i was stuffing my face with leftover ham.

I can generalize christians saying they do not like logic, because if they liked logic they would be atheist. and how many christians do you know that will just sit there and let an atheist prove them wrong? very few, most get angry or defensive or say "the bible shouldnt be taken literally", Now on the flip side i will admit that when a christian preaches to me i get angry and defensive, but im not mad they are questioning my belief system or lack thereof, I'm mad at the blatant ignorance they exhibit when making their arguement.
#130 - soluvy (12/27/2012) [-]
However, the bible can be taken figuratively, old testament in particular, given the fact that God would have struggled explaining Atoms, outer space, or DNA to men who herded sheep.

I've debated with a lot of respectable Atheists, and I've noticed that they have few things in common. These Atheists are not militant, nor are they arrogant, a problem that in my experience plagues most of their intellectual elite.
I have been lucky to, in many cases, establish a mutual respect with these individuals and take part in engaging debate. I could for instance compile a list of interesting arguments and comments that have put my knowledge and intelligence to the test.

Unfortunately, your "reasoning" does not make that list, as it's obvious you're merely spouting off uneducated, unchecked bile at a scapegoat in order to vent your frustration. I lack the context to know why, unfortunately. Perhaps you should actually read the OT. True, there are vulgar aspects to its composure, but there is a lot of beauty in it as well, and one cannot deny that it effectively describes a decent moral framework. If you are unable to accept that, then you are childish and you need to grow up, which I genuinely hope you do (I really do not mean to come across as pretentious).

Anyway, good day to you. And good luck.
#198 - dotasaurus (12/23/2012) [-]
Seriously dude, Why is it the first thing the christians do is Ignore the shitty part of the bible and just bandwagon the "beautiful" things.

Give me one book where a form of mass murder/rape/incest/sodomy doesnt occur in the OT and I will admit defeat. However, that is impossible....I could list off the books with the atrocities, but you will just ignore it and say the usual "Dude chill thats the OLD God, i dont take that shit literally, its up for personal interpretation".

And as an FYI, most athiests are non-militant, you just think us strongly voicing our opinions is Militant, but yet a christian woman yelling at me in wal-mart saying im a satan worshipper for listening to metal music is "righteous".

Shall I recite what I just finished saying?

Obviously, I do:
Religion is a scapegoat and is used to justify the bad things we do.

The reason why it's so perfect is because man is naturally religious so they don't need to invent any shit to justify gassing a million jews, it's already there

Even without religion, people won't live happily in a beautiful utopia, nor will things get any better. They will keep inventing other shenanigans to explain their hate for each other.
User avatar #179 - goldenglimmer (12/22/2012) [-]
Pol Pot, the entire Soviet Union and all its related nations, Mao Zedong and his little red army, North Korea, the Kamakaze warriors of the Japanese Empire and everything horrific there of, and many more. All these philosopies/events were directly caused by and based upon an Atheist moral framework.

It's completely retarded to think that the world would be perfect without religion. Perhaps a few aspects would be better without certain religious input, but thinking that this would solve our problems is, frankly speaking, short-sighted, self indulgent and mind nummingly arrogant.
User avatar #169 - ipopballoons (12/22/2012) [-]
Those are still man-made things. God himself didn't tell people to do things like that. It's societies unwillingness to have an open mind for other beliefs that cause things like that. And then people like you say it's the Lord's fault. :c

Rugby and american football (a.k.a. handball for some folk) are completely different sports, the only thing they have in common is the "touchdowns". Even the balls are not alike (except the shape). Please inform yourself before posting things like that.
