| Different places probably. I´m slowly getting so sick of out community that I´m often ashamed of wearing my Battlejacket or anything indicating metal. I´ve also yet to see the so-called courtesy of metalheads. Everytime I´ve been to a metal concert with my respective girlfriend simply a girl, I´ve had to get rid of at least one drunk fucker who tried feeling her up or something - something that I have yet to see at a rap-concert, for example. Don´t get me wrong, I love metal, for the hell of it and I definitely won´t stop listening to it, but I got the feeling that we have 90% fuckheads and only 10% cool guys. For example, have a story. I was out partying last week in the town were I study, not at a concert, but normal pub-going, so not dressed "metal" but in clothes that would appeal the girls you want to talk to. When the pub we were in closed, we walked to another one, 15 minutes away, only a long street next to the river to go. Many groups meet there, so we thought, we might talk to some of them and drink a beer with them as we always do. As we walked, I head a song being played, Hammerfalls "Any means necessary", so we went to this group, said hello, complimented on the music. We were friendly. Only response we got was to fuck of and that we hipster-faggots shouldn´t be trying to look like we were cool enough to listen to metal (Sidenote, I´ve seen hammerfall 12 times up to now). When we went away, they threw a bottle after us. Middle of the rest of a way, a group of guys my age were sitting, listening to instumental beats on their portables, doing freestyle-rap themselves. We listened a bit, cause it did sound funny but didn´t want to go near them after the episode before. One of them came up to us, gave me a beer and invited us to sit down and smoke some hookah with them if we liked. All cool guys, no bad word from them. Yes, there are cool guys, in metal too. One helped me get a dude away who hit his gf on a municipal waste concert, for example, another one helped a friend of mine when we had a problem with his asthma right in the middle of the crowd at a motörhead concert, etc. Of cause, some of my best friends are metalheads. My point just being that at the average, the metal community isn´t half as nice and gentelmanly as they want to be. I wouldn´t have aproblem with this, no way, but everytime I hear someone on the Internet stating how incredibly nice and great we are, it boils up in me. Even more when I read comments like "if she had been at a rapconcert, she would have been gangraped" by festbreeder on the exact same content here... #117

N. Korean citizen (05/16/2013) [-] That couldn't of been put any better! Completely approve of this post, thanks for making me feel like I'm not the only one! Actually that´s how it should be, not how it is. - At least not here, where I live. Most metalheads around here are elitist motherfuckers who are discriminating everybody. Everyone who doesn´t listen to metal -> faggot. Everyone who does listen to metal, but to other genres, too -> faggot. Everyone who listens to the wrong metal -> faggot. Everyone who doesn´t "dress metal" all the time -> faggot. Of couse, you can find some pretty damn cool guys, too, but the average is like this. It´s incredibly annoying and can really spoil your fun on concerts, I talk from experience. I listen to more metalbands and know more abozt them then 95% of the metalheads around my area, but I still only get shit from them, simply beause I don´t dress like them, also like other music and also enjoy "un-metal, untrve" things. Makes me sick. #110

eros (05/17/2013) [-] You just need to go to a few concerts. Most of those kinds of metalheads are the poorfags who only torrent the albums and don't go to shows. Every show I've been to (I've been to about 11 so far) only had a handful of those people, and the rest were genuinely awesome people. In every Mosh I have ever been, guys and girls alike, people get knocked down and picked right back up and girls and guys are treated equally. Also, don´t use poorfags. Most people just can´t afford this stuff, you shouldn´t insult them like this. I´m a "poorfag", too, even if my parents have more than enough money and I have to work and save up for every fucking cent for these concerts and records, too, next to university. It´s not a funny thing. #67

doktorandus (05/16/2013) [-] Well, quite frankly, that's not how I've experienced it. I apologize your situation is like that, but aside from the concert experiences, it's well known the nitpicking in genres relating to Metal is completely arbitrary and supported only by folks who've actually coined terms like 'Symphonic Super Pink Elephant Grindhard Viking Power Deathcore'. I'll not deny Elitism very much exists in the Metalhead community, but from my own experience; Metalheads are some of the greatest guys out there. I mean, I'm one. And while not dressing like I listen to such, musical snobbery isn't what makes up a community. Nor does emphasizing or putting your attention to one particular group in one particular subculture. And while the chaff may have their little elitist bouts of what sounds like or what or should be labeled what, I'll stand by my statement that when the going gets tough, Metalheads will be the first to help their brethren out. Like any community or group, it has plenty of flaws, but that only partially discredits them and really shouldn't take away from the majority which might punch your teeth out at some point, but they'll offer you a beer later. You don't need teeth to drink beer anyway. And they'll certainly come to your side when they see their fellow metalheads getting shit from whoever. Once again, I'm sorry your situation is as it is, but we shouldn't pay attention to the tumor on the community and instead focus on the good. Which is that courtesy is fucking Metal, and that Metalheads have plenty of it in times of need. Different places probably. I´m slowly getting so sick of out community that I´m often ashamed of wearing my Battlejacket or anything indicating metal. I´ve also yet to see the so-called courtesy of metalheads. doktorandus (04/26/2013) [-] No, I know. But I'm a bit of a perfectionist. Anyone can dress up and pretend of course, spread kindness through little acts of courtesy and all that. But I'd like to make whoever feel special, and this is best done through status or reputation. As in; "This one guy who could do so much stuff and probably has so much better to do who's apparently so important because he did some shallow things took his time out of his life for ME!" There's little that compares to some 'important' person spending some time with YOU and YOU alone. That's how I'd like to make their day, because it's basically the epitome of satisfaction. I'd like to use that 'power' if you will, to spread smiles and good vibes. You still don't have to dress up and pretend to make someones day. #175
