It's not something I'll be needing printed, just some stl files to take to some machinists or something.

But I'll give you some pictures as reference and try to explain things as best as I can. It involves two 24 sided polygons and two 48 sided ones as well.

it's not mine per say, but i am the 3d printing student aid at my college. Why?

I need to prototype some stuff for some drum hardware. I plan on starting my own drum shell company and I have some ideas to make some convertible free floating lugs.

I figure that I'll obtain plastic copies, bring it to a machinist then have it made in metal. I also figure that if I ask Fjer's and pay them for it.. It helps the two people involved.

The first drum set I'm making is going to be lacquered with FJ pink and green faded into eachother. The bass drum heads are going to be the green thumb and red thumb.

Well, another question is: how much were you willing to pay? I'm not amazing at 3d design I just know the printer itself. I *might* be able to get something resembling the thumb but you'd probably want to ask someone else. They'd need to know the dimensions of whatever it's going to cover. That all comes at some sort of cost, and tack on the price for filament and the time they'd have to sit with the printer to assure no **** ups happen...

The thumbs come as a picture on the drum head, that's of no concern for the 3d printer.

Basically, the lugs will be a 3 inch hexagon that's 1/2 an inch wide with a raised circle on both vertical ends of the hexagon. Then the inside will be threaded to fit something that's 7/32" in diameter.

It really just one, simple basic 3D shape that's hallowed out and threaded to fit the tension rods.

So, why do you need a 3d printed version? You have dimensions, ask a machinist about it. I imagine that's not an unusual size for lug nuts.

got a time frame you'd need it by? I've done some rough estimations, it would only be about 20 minutes to print one on my setup, plus the time to design. Maybe less, maybe more. It's a simple enough design, no crazy angles or ledges.

Well that seems doable. I (or whoever ends up doing it) would need to design it (unless you have the file saved?), then sit around printing it. That's a twofold payment as you need both filament prices and payment for the printers time. Finally there's shipping, but that shouldn't be too much for pieces that small and light. Again, I'll have to get back to you on details since I won't have a computer for about 3 days (on my phone). I'm thinking that's maybe $30-$50? ive never been contracted so idk, I could be way off

Next semester starts on Aug 22, I can get the file and such prepped by then and likely print the day I move in. Then you'd just wait for it to arrive in the mail. So, about two months.

When you're getting back, I'd for surely get a hold of me to see if I still need it.
