Let's put it this way:
If everyone hated futurama and thought it was the devil, plenty of people would still go around saying "I like futurama, what of it?"

For a lot of the community I suspect it initially has more to do with a grouped defense of their own interests (Which many condemn) rather than any real desire to make it a defining trait.
Of course, they should just watch their show and not care what people think, but oh well.

People are watching something they weren't expected to watch, and other people cared.
I'd be more interested in a study about why anybody gave a shit what someone else watches on their tv.

i mean i love the music and art that this fandom has made. not like the song music remix i mean artists that covered it and now have made original songs based so loosely on the show that you wouldnt know until someone told you it was about it but sometimes it goes over the top like this research study just on this group, surely a research on changing gender norms in tv broadcasing would be better
