did you really just try to prevent spoiling something from a 20 year old movie
User avatar #21 - baloothebear (08/17/2014) [-]
i have watched pulp fiction 4 times. Still i think that its good to prevent spoilers. it does not matter that its 20 years old. Alot of people have not seen it. imagine if the darth vade being lukes dad on star wars thing never got spoiled for anyone. yes the movie is 35 years old but besides people who watched it back then nobody could enjoy that plot twist since it got spoiled for all the future generations who would watch it.

TL;DR even if its old there are alot of people who have yet to watch it so why should we ruin the movie for them?

I guess you're right. I guess I haven't been around such crowds, but HP is pretty tolerated in the least with young people. They either love it (fans) or don't really care about it, but will certainly not judge you for liking it.

I'm not talking like that out of need of being an asshole, it's just that your comments made no sense.
You suggest in your first reply that HP has "always been childish", and right now you're saying if might not be "childish by itself". Again, just because it's oriented at children, something that I completely agree with, doesn't mean the series are childish per se.
Also, with what kind of people do you hang out with? I have never met anyone that would openly say "You like Harry Potter? Man, you're so childish". I can honestly say I have never seen a person who would believe in that stigma you're talking about.

The first reply was meant to be a joke, TBH. Evidently it wasn't funny.

And I've met a few people who think that way. The later books are definitely geared towards teenagers and adults, and the series as a whole is not a light-hearted affair. Hell, the entire set-up is the main character's parents getting murdered, leaving him to be abused by a family who hates the fact that he exists for ten years.

But at the same time, go to any literary discussion with people who read a lot of books and mention Harry Potter. You might get one or two nods, but you'll get more than a few scowls.

The first couple of them were oriented mainly at children, yes. That doesn't make them childish, however. You are absolutely certain you know what "immature" means, right?
#50 - dividerbyzero (08/17/2014) [-]
Yes, I know what "immature" means. You don't have to talk to me as though I'm a child myself.

I'm just saying that HP has an aura of being for children. Even if it's not childish in itself, it still has that stigma. Same with games like Zelda or Pokemon.

child•ish
adj.
1. of, like, or appropriate for a child
2. immature; foolish

You are a special kind of stupid, aren't you?

I'd say the first three or so HP books are pretty childish. Then the series grows up a little, sure.
