Once again.

The first line establishes that they talked about this prior to her death. Very first words are "I told you"

Not I never told you.

So it is pretty obvious that they had this planned before hand. It is likely the letter is both a goodbye and a confirmation that this is indeed why the package was sent to him.
#162 - jackmason (06/14/2014) [-]
She had told him "If there was an afterlife I would contact you." Now, getting at least this first package he would be let in on her plans, and know that if they stop she would have stopped it. However, if the FIRST package never arrived, he would still be waiting for some way for her to contact him, never knowing this was how she planned on doing it.

I don't understand why you're getting thumbed down. You're pointing out a very obvious hole in this scenario. If the package had been stopped, he never would have received it, and therefore never would have known about the whole thing.
User avatar #70 - alleksi (06/14/2014) [-]
You are presuming that the letter came with the package.

if the letter says "yo I've ordered a package to be sent to you every month so if you don't get any packages then you'll know that I'm a ghost and shit", then obviously if he gets no package he'll know that there is something beyond the grave (that is, assuming that they live in a perfect world where the post office doesn't fuck things up).
User avatar #78 - RealRune (06/14/2014) [-]
As the letter says "this package" that's a fair assumption.
#116 - anonymous (06/14/2014) [-]
Here, I'll point out something for you. First line.

"I've told you if there were something beyond the grave I would contact you"

That means they talked about this before hand. He probably already knew about the package, and the letter was just reminding him why it was sent so he didn't have to spend a couple minutes thinking who the hell would send me a package of candy.

User avatar #102 - drfreeman (06/14/2014) [-]
To you and everyone commenting below, I don't think this was a hole in the story. I think she only planned on one package being sent, and actually wanted him to get it. The letter only expressed the desire to stop the packages because then it would be significant when the second one didn't come. He would feel that it was her making one last effort to contact him, when in reality all she had to do was arrange for the letter and the package to be delivered to him in the event of her death.
User avatar #97 - samxdaxman (06/14/2014) [-]
She said "I'll try to get the one for next month." SO if a month passes and he recieves no chocolates, then he knows she's still there.
User avatar #87 - bertyhell (06/14/2014) [-]
i think the whole point of the sentance "either you'll see me again or you get a ..." is that when he dies she will be in the afterlife with him.

So either he gets a box of candy or he lives out his life unknowing and sees her again after he dies.
User avatar #86 - Tazdingo (06/14/2014) [-]
Then it would mean there is a way to reach beyond death, and the package would not be needed anyway.

User avatar #75 - atomschlumpf (06/14/2014) [-]

#57 - amdyceth (06/14/2014) [-]
Well apparently more than one package was sent. So maybe if she managed to stop the first one, she'd let the second one be delivered with a message saying something like, "If you didn't get one last month, I managed to stop it! But if you did, I'm sorry again."
