Thats not as fast as possible, it takes some time to bleed out. A bolt to the head is as fast as possible, they are dead before the pain even registers.
I love my piece of meat, but i do not hate animals. I wont turn down a juicy steak because i enjoy eating it, but i dont believe we should let animals artificially suffer more then they should when we have the technology to make it as painless as possible, just because some 900 or so year old book said so.
#37 - alexanderh (10/22/2014) [-]
Halal doesn't exclude a bolt to the head, as long as it doesn't penetrate the skull. In Denmark, halal meat and non-halal cows are killed in extremely similar ways: non-halal is a bolt to the head, penetrating the skull, and the slitting the throat, while halal is a bolt to the head that doesn't kill but completely paralyzes (basically shutting off the brain temporarily) the cow, and then slitting the throat in a different way, with some prayers while the throat is being slit. Both are as close to painless as you're going to get when killing something.
Just thought you guys should know.

Fun fact - The draining of blood from meat goes back to the belief that diseases runs in your blood and spreads to make you ill - therefore, it was written that an animal was to be drained of blood, to avoid transferring diseases from the animal and unto yourself..
These days.. Yeah it doesn't make much sense though.
#35 - kombee (10/22/2014) [-]
But, isn't it the same meat and blood? Animal blood in general is very disease-inviting, and parasite-infested. Your immune system needs to be really good to be able to handle that. Although it's more advanced than anticipated, I still very much see reason to bleed the animal out.
#27 - ciacheczko (10/22/2014) [-]
Was it really so easy to transfer such diseases, though? Animals don't catch human diseases and likewise. On a regular farm people can drink blood straight from the animal - because it's fresh and has no bacteria that could harm them. It was all a matter of believing that this blood is bad, rather than medical knowledge. It's just as reasonable as heir assumption that pigs are more filthy than other animals.

Diseases certainly can jump between species, it happens fairly frequently. We got HIV from primates. Most types of the flu jump between different species. Why do you think we can get swine flu? It was once a flu that just infected pigs, but at some point it jumped to humans. In fact, that swine flu may have come from another type of animal before it infected pigs. I'm also sure we can make animals sick, although I can't think of any examples off the top of my head...
Also, people don't normally drink blood straight from an animal. That's asking to get sick. I have a feeling it's probably practiced, but it's not a common practice.
#58 - ciacheczko (10/22/2014) [-]
But they don't just "jump". You'd have to fuck a pig and then lick off your shit-covered cock. Same with bird flu. Unless your hygiene is disastrous, it's actually very hard to catch it. Pretty much every single damn animal can give you a parasite that will live in your body. Pigs are ones of them, but not the only ones. And that thing about ingesting feces - I'm sure they have far better things to eat. Again - if held in good condtitions, such situations can never occur and pigs are as clean as any other household animal.
Besides... these supposedly deadly and widespread diseases don't hit that hard, but each and every case is colored up by media to cause anxiety among society. Bird flu, swine flu, mad cows. And now ebola. They all have poor health care and pathetic sanitary standards in common. And occur the most in places where such conditions are an every day basis.
Not saying ebola is not a problem - it's a real and very shitty disease - but the news are overexaggarating it. In a year or so you won't even remember it had place, because the media will find another "deadly mass infection" to spread panic about. Even in my country we had like 5 cases of ebola so far - all of them fake. But people got scared nonetheless and the media had a LOT to say regarding it before revealing it's all lies.
It puts such news in a bad light, don't you think?
#62 - juanlove (10/22/2014) [-]
Yes, they can just "jump." It doesn't happen frequently, because people practice good hygiene nowadays (at least in developed countries), but it still can happen. You can get the flu from a pig the same way you can get the flu from another person. Read this:
And plus, don't forget that some people literally have sex with animals. Do you think those people practice good hygiene?
As far as the feces goes, I said this was happening before modern plumbing was available. Sometimes people would throw their excrement into the pig pen, it seemed like the logical thing to do at the time. Pigs would roll around in that shit. They would also use their own feces to fertilize plants, which were then fed to the pigs. It's called 'nightsoiling,' and it has died out in developed nations because of the potential to make people/animals sick. But because it used to happen so much, and many people raised pigs, it wasn't unusual for people to get sick after consuming pork products. Thus, the pig became a 'dirty' animal.
#64 - ciacheczko (10/22/2014) [-]
All this article says that people who got sick were in contact with pigs. They didn't even said HOW it happend. Just that pigs were involved. Well, no shit Sherlock, what do you fucking expect from a swine flu? You won't catch it from a cow now, will you? It does not prove, in any way, that this disease just randomly flies from one species to another.
"Sometimes people would throw their excrement into the pig pen, it seemed like the logical thing to do at the time"
>throwing shit at the pigs
>blaming pigs for being filthy
Do I even have to comment on that?
It's not pigs' fault that people literally shit in their own food.
It's not pig's fault that people literally fuck animals. They fuck other animals too, don't forget.
All I'm saying is that pigs are not even a little bit more dirty than any other animals. People might've as well thrown their shit at cows. The only reason pigs are considered filthy is because people made them up to be filthy.
#74 - juanlove (10/22/2014) [-]
And I agree, it's not the pigs' fault that our shit ended up in their food. We don't practice it anymore. However, you may also forget that pigs love to cover themselves in mud when they're stuck out in their pens. Mud is filthy, thus making the pig seem like a filthy animal.
I agree that pigs get it worse than other animals, but that's just the way it is. Good luck changing mankind's outlook on pigs.
#73 - juanlove (10/22/2014) [-]
In response to your first paragraph:
"Classical swine influenza viruses can also be directly transmitted to humans as zoonotic infections"
"Older strains of human influenza virus can be maintained among pigs, thereby allowing for re-introduction of antigenic variants back into the human population."
Yes, it can just randomly fly from one species to another.
"Zoonosis: the process whereby an infectious disease is transmitted between species. It usually refers specifically to diseases that can travel from non-human animals to humans. They include all diseases that people can contract from animals such as wildlife, domestic animals, insects, primates, and birds."
#86 - ciacheczko (10/22/2014) [-]
I am sorry, but you are still only repeating your one and only argument that this happens. I know it does. I really do. But, yet again, there's no specification on HOW can it happen. These articles all mention that it's possible. And, again, I am still absolutely positive that it takes severe case of carelessnes, lack of hygiene and any caution whatsoever.
My exact poin is that swine flu is not an easily transmitted disease. I know it is transmittable. But it's not that simple.
#95 - juanlove (10/22/2014) [-]
"This is thought to happen mainly when an infected pig coughs or sneezes and droplets with influenza virus in them spread through the air. If these droplets land in your nose or mouth, or are inhaled, you can be infected. There also is some evidence that you might get infected by touching something that has virus on it and then touching your own mouth or nose. A third way to possibly get infected is to inhale dust containing influenza virus. Scientists aren’t really sure which of these ways of spread is the most common."
Simple as that.
It becomes complex when you investigate the specific strain of virus that the pig gave to a person, and that person's immune system.
In other words, will this virus be able to survive and reproduce inside the person's body? Also, if it can do those things unhindered, will it be able to spread to other people?
Also, will the infected person's immune system be able to recognize this flu as a threat and produce antibodies to attack it? If not, will other peoples' immune systems be able to suppress this particular virus?
If it's a strain that can reproduce within humans, and evade their immune responses, then you're looking at a potential epidemic/pandemic.
#28 - hazelnutqt (10/22/2014) [-]
That's why I'm saying these days it's not relevant =)
At the time, blood was the be-all-end-all of diseases, frequently, a visit to a doctor resultetd in a so-called blood-letting, I.E. tapping of your blood to bleed out the disease.. Same went for animals, you had to get rid of the blood to not get sick.

Their meat, at least before we had a certain level of control of the livestock, the pork was really a filthy animal along with his meat since when they ate everything they had in front of them. This made them be the main cause of trichinosis and a dangerous meat if not cooked properly (which wasn't totally used to hapen) since they could host many kinds of parastes and//or diseases. That's why some religions pair porks with evil and Islam forbid the pork's meat.
#46 - ciacheczko (10/22/2014) [-]
Of what I read multiple times, pigs being unclean is actually a myth. They are associated with mud and considered to be lesser creatures throughout the history - middle ages were all about pigs symbolising the worst of the worst, there were even pig masks to be worn as a punishment back then.
But it's been proven again and again that pigs are not filthy and, if kept in good conditions, are no worse than cows or chickens. All of the humanity moved on an accepted this knowledge. And it seems that only the religion is still suck in middle ages.

Pigs are considered dirty mainly due to the fact that they can carry Taenia solium, AKA the pork tapeworm. If a person ingests pig meat containing these tapeworms, they'll become infected. The worms that mature inside the person will produce eggs, which the person then excretes. Back before modern plumbing, people would just defecate outside, and their pigs could then become infected again by ingesting the egg-filled human poop. Thus, the cycle starts over.
TL;DR, pigs can give people tapeworms. Thus, they are considered dirty.
#51 - lean (10/22/2014) [-]
Yeah, no it doesn't. Internal organs left intact such as liver, stomach and intestines, trachea, and bladder can cause meat to spoil and infection to spread. What do you think au jus is with a good prime rib?
Hint: blood and fat from the meat, seasoned and kept warm for dipping

I've read a bit about it, but had to check it up a bit when you say that.
"One should avoid stunning before the slaughter or the blood won't drain properly, according to wise men. This was later confirmed by a representative of the Turkish government before the EU parliament concerrning animal rights at slaughter."
Saus: Swedish wikipedia.
I suspect that only very, very open-minded muslims/jews think using a captive bolt stunner is halal/kosher.

No, it clearly reads "Asian gangs" because the Daily Mirror is too liberal and too cowardly to tell the whole truth. Muslim Pakistanis raped thousands of girls, not 1400, because they're muzzies, and they don't believe white non-muzzies should be treated any better than the goats they fucked growing up in Pakistan. Truth!
