It's not normal, no. What it probably means is that you've made a habit of being sleep-deprived, which forces your brain to go into REM sleep almost immediately after you fall asleep (and skips the first 4 stages altogether for the first cycle). In other words, it's normal if you're in school and work and never get enough sleep (which is probably why you needed to take a 1-hour power-nap in the first place).

What probably happened is that you were very tired but had to try to keep yourself awake a while longer, knocked out accidentally, went straight into REM sleep, caught yourself, woke up, fell asleep again, went straight into REM sleep, and so on.

I'm not a psychiatrist, but you should probably try to find a more regular sleeping pattern. Making a habit of sleep-deprivation can result in anything from weight gain and depressed mood (for most people) or even insanity (in extreme cases).

That makes sense, thanks. I have had a god-awful sleep-schedule, but luckily I haven't gained weight or been depressed (yet), so I must be going insane. But seriously, thanks. I'm not insane..........
