yep, and iv valve were a good company who werent just money grabing dickwads they would have put a donation link in not a fucking paid system where they get to take 75%
User avatar #93 - thatasswasfat (04/26/2015) [-]
modders could already have donation links the thing with that though is no matter what someone is taking a portion of that money. this way if modders are going to be making money of there creations they can do it in better way that is supported by the company who made the game. i still do believe that the modder should get most of the money but that is something that will be worked out over time.

well i stand by that paid modding is a flat out bad thing, especialy the way it was implamented by valve which is full of awfull loopholes and is nothing short of shitty for the modders, the only one who benifits from this is valve and the only ones who benifit from paid modding are the companies like valve and bethesda who take a cut for doing nothing and are just out to take your money however they can
User avatar #101 - thatasswasfat (04/26/2015) [-]
yes i can respect that you don't like it and i agree it could have been handled better but we will have to see what happens in time with the modding community. also no valve nor Bethesda are truly benefiting from this anything that hurts the community hurts them. valve knows this this is why they don't do anything that only makes them short term cash and kills them in the long run.

According to Gaben, Bethesda set the split. The Modder gets 25% Steam 30% and Bethesda the rest.
I think that Steam insists on that 30% because they provide the infrastructure, can't tell me they wouldn't negotiate about that. But the other 70% are decided by the Publisher, in this case Bethesda.

I'd like to see something inbetween 35-50% for the modder at least. The developer/publisher should get the smallest share as they don't really contribute to the mod or rather allready got their share with the game being bought.

you want to support modders, donations are a thing
User avatar #118 - gcloud (04/26/2015) [-]

Man almost no modders will have ANY benefit coming from this. Unless the modder creates the best mod ever, charge 5 bucks for it, and gets the 25% profit from it; even so, it's not worth it

And why would you pay for mods? Valve and bethesda get 75% of the money too. And of course emaling them wouldn't be that effective, since the petition conveys the idea of thousands, maybe even millions of costumers. An e-mail doesn't have that weight to it
#38 - And exactly what would signing a petition do?  [+] (4 new replies) 04/25/2015 on RIP modding community +4
User avatar #93 - anotherponyaccount (04/25/2015) [-]
While petitions have no legal binding it is known to the companies that there is a general mindset of "Fuck this" and they often remove their prior decision because they may stat to get boycotted and have unhappy customers
#45 - smartasshobo (04/25/2015) [-]
I dunno, bringing the attention of that it's stupid or whatever

Man, it's better than to stay put and watch it happen and fuck us over
User avatar #88 - dickstick (04/25/2015) [-]
Well, I think emailing Valve is the best option at this point, they will probably not even notice the petition. Also, what about the people who choose to buy the mods, they may feel cheated and get angry over that... Because of valves terrible decision they kinda can't win at this point.

I just want them to take the current model and flip it, so Valve only gets paid a little bit if the mod reaches the minimum, as a small service fee for helping the mod get publicity. That makes infinitely more sense to me.

Some people are upset because "but much free modz!!1 But I agree that modders should be paid for hard work if they choose to be, as I'm sure a lot of others do. The issue I have is that Valve makes most of the profit and the modder only gets paid if his/her mod meets a set minimum amount of revenue

This is what is going to kill the modding community... These people trying to get money out of it without trying. I hope they only allow quality mods to get through and not this shit. And they should really consider changing to to support the creators more.
