Of course I can only speak from my own experiences, but I somewhat fail to see the need for "choosing" a gender. The fact that our generic words to refer to people (he, she, him, her) are gender specific is just sort of an unnecessary part of English. I'd totally be up for a big pruning of useless words and grammar rules from English, but that's a different issue. I've always considered myself feminine. I'm pretty emotional. I'm incredibly self-conscious and worried about the way I look. I fit almost all of the traditionally female stereotypes. And everyone calling me a "he" has never changed that about me. People respond to my personality as they would anyone else.
My point is that I really don't think this push for separation and gender and biological sex is nearly as progressive as people seem to think it is. You need to know your about biological sex for the sake of hygiene and health. Past that, the difference between "boy" and "girl" isn't helpful. It doesn't matter how many little terms we add to that lists of genders, sexuality, political ideologies, ethical ideologies, etc. We have an entire language with which to describe ourselves. Some people even have several. Why limit it to a set of predefined words?

So are you implying that a man who is feminine or a woman who is masculine has a disease? There's a huuuuge difference between your mental preferences and your physical health. There's nothing wrong with people who feel like that. What's wrong is trying to put them all into neat little boxes.
I can say I feel black dude all I want. I can insist on being on a basketball team and that everyone refer to me as "my nigga", but it doesn't change a thing.

I wasn't saying it was a disease. That was a metaphor. Just how high above your head did the point of it go?
You're not referring to a state of mind or personality when talking about "black dude", black is a race. There is a wide variation between individuals in any race, so that metaphor isn't accurate. Being feminine or masculine has to do with the status and combination of one's dna, neurochemistry, and possibly upbringing. The whole "I'm a girl in a guy's body" thing (and vice-versa) is a result of a change in one of these three factors (which is almost always neurochemistry). Race and sex is decided entirely by dna. So while you can change race or sex (with the sacrifice of much time and money), one's gender cannot be changed.
