I don't use any OP style mods, so that could help. If anything I use mods that make you try harder, balance things, etc. Coming back to vanilla and trying to use, say, destruction? Is a pain in the ass.

Beth really dropped the ball on magic in Skyrim. I don't even want to be OP, I just want my fireball to be comparable to idk, an arrow? It's not. Magic is shit in vanilla. It's backup, maybe. Not to mention if you go, say, heavy + 2h you get op as shit super fast and there's no challenge anywhere.

I ended up writing a rant about skyrim being worse than oblivion somehow, is in the spoiler below. just kinda stems from skyrims gameplay not being as balanced as past entries, but I may have overdone it.

good point, the whole combat system in skyrim isn't as balanced as the ones from previous games. In oblivion if you were getting rekt by melee fuckfaces you would get a distance device, say a bow or a spell. bow sucks? new bow or new arrows, possibly even new tactic. Spell sucks? go make a new one, money is easy in this game and if you have access to spell making, go make an OP spell. Can't make your own? buy one. still not good enough? new tactic, let the guy beat the shit out of you but keep healing as the weathering system in oblivion slowly breaks away at his weapon, then attack when he's defenceless. In skyrim, guy is OP? shout at him with your shouting abilities, 2H his face and become winrar.

One thing I hated about skyrim was the lack of skill required that didn't involve making sure the crossair was ontop of the target and clicking.

oh my god

Oblivion was wonderful. In that regard, I enjoyed Morrowind as well, though I don't always consider it the PEAK OF PERFECTION that its fanboys do. However, both of them definitely had -options- that vanilla Skyrim does not. Every way I wanted to play - a pyromanic destruction mage, a sneaky conjurer, an asshole who kept running away and shooting you full of arrows - were just as viable as ME SMASH WITH HAMMER.

Skyrim, vanilla anyway, really feels like it wants you to be a 2H, heavy armored Nord. I mean, the Nord thing is just lorefeel but overall that's the easiest, best way to play. Most efficient anyway. The other valid alternative is to stick in sneak forever and arrow things to death.

Slowly.

I really miss the variety you could accomplish in Morrowind and Oblivion. (Never got into Daggerfall so I can't say anything there and I meh'd at Arena, I was too young for it hahaha.)

bugger spoilers. I always had it for oblivion because it was, for a time, the only game I had aside from n64 stuff (ocarina of time bitch!). The fun part is that everytime I redo an oblivion run I always have a gimmick, like I built myself to be the strongest of all mages but I was an astronach, or an orc born under the shadow. Skyrim doesn't let you have the freedom to be whatever and stick to your own limitations; if you get bored of being a buff as fuck khajiit, you can start doing sneaky shit and forget everything about your original story. Born under the astronach so you have difficulties with magicka? it's ok, place your hand on this rock and it'll shift your birthdate. I liked that they gave gamers more freedom with their character but maybe it was the limitations made by previous games which made them that much more fun and interesting.
User avatar #65 - stagedvariance (12/14/2014) [-]
I agree, though at the same time it shoehorns you into two roles - sneaky bowman or RARGH SMASH, which as you pointed out the previous ones did not. That's like 80% of why I started modding (the other part being graphics, heh). I miss the freedom that TES has always given while making your birthright who you are; if you're a mage, you better not try and be not a mage 15 levels later because goddamnit you're going to do shit-all with that katana. Vanilla Skyrim is just like "meh be whatever. Max whatever. own the world." It's ... ehhhh.

Though I did like that Oblivion wasn't -as- harsh as Morrowind was. At least I didn't have to make sure to pick a race that was terrible at what I wanted to be in order to get good stat gains. LOL Though the first time I played I did that anyway and didn't know jack about 'how to level' and loved the fuck out of the game, so maybe I'm making it out to be harder than it is, there.

Honestly I recommend trying Skyrim without mods, but once you use even one or two vanilla becomes . . . greh.

Interesting NPCs is one I absolutely can't play without anymore though, because fucking Gorr. There's youtube vids of some of the dialogue of the various NPCs, he's my favorite and fits perfectly into the universe.

Most of them are very well written, though a couple of the VAs are eh.

I don't know why but I kinda like coming back from a modded game, seeing a collosal fort is now missing in place of a vast plain, spells and weapons on par with everyone elses and companions being average joes. It just adds a sudden authenticity that went missing when mods appeared

You sell yourself short if you play without the fixes and texturepacks though, even as a first time player. Modding the shit out of everything like graphics cranking, custom homes and bouncing boobs is for later though.
User avatar #61 - stagedvariance (12/14/2014) [-]

I'm hoping to start up a server to host it when it is complete. It will largely be an RP thing. Players can go on with their lives in the real world(put a lot of effort into making the city entertaining to run around in. Shops with custom unique items/food, amusement park, prison, hidden hangouts, etc). I will probably have a small team of XANA people. They will coordinate attacks on the real world.

www.planetminecraft.com/project/code-lyoko---kadic-academy/

I also am in the process of making a custom texture pack to go along with it. I've ripped a few songs from the show and made the CDs play them.
