I agree with that

But there are no real benefits to having a mechanical

But there are benefits to having a mechanical. They last longer than normal rubber dome keyboards. I had a normal keyboard that was only 5 years old and the rubber domes on some of the keys were already falling off. Mechanical keyboards on the other hand, have a way longer life. You can pick up an IBM model m that is 20 years old at a thrift shop that works just fine. I've destroyed the rubber dome on my previous keyboard, and I did not abuse it or anything. It was just from regular use. I don't even play video games that much, I just mainly type.

You could buy a better keyboard for half the price. The black widow uses low quality key caps, and has poor build quality compared to other mechanical keyboards

Okay yeah, I agree about the Lycosa & Deathstalker being ridiculously overpriced, because over $80 for a non-mechanical keyboard is retarded. As for the Blackwidow, there's a Stealth version with Cherry MX brown keycaps that's noticeably quieter (Also, I was able to get a brand new Blackwidow Ultimate online for just $80. I stuck O-rings under the keycaps to muffle the noise and so far I love it, but that's just personal preference). As for gold-plated USB connectors, I'm well aware they're a gimmick, I used to use a Perrix "Gaming mouse" with a gold-plated USB connector, and it had some of the worst feedback of any mouse I'd ever used (I got it for like $15 on Amazon so I guess it's understandable). As for their headsets. Yeah, they're pretty shitty (I had a friend who insisted on buying a Megalodon regardless of what we said, but he was never able to get the microphone to work properly, so there goes ~$150 down the drain), I'm happy with my $35 stereo headset. For what I paid, the performance is surprisingly good.

Then Kindly list these reasons? Personally I like Razer products, their mice are comfortable to hold and their keyboards have a nice feel to them.

The razer lycosa and deathstalker are massively overpriced, and have a ton of placebo features which people think make a difference. They cost between $75-150 depending on what retailer you go to. That's way too much for a rubber dome keyboard. That's around the price of an entry level mechanical keyboard, and the mechanical one will last you longer, unless its a blackwidow. The blackwidow has terrible keycaps for the price you are paying for it, there are better keycaps that you can get on mechanical keyboards that are half the price. Also, the blackwidow has only Cherry MX blue switches, while other keyboards come in a variety of switches, which each have different characteristics. Remember that thing that I said about all their products being filled with placebos, well they're filled with tons of placebos. Razer claims that gold plated USB connectors on their products have better feedback . This is a marketing gimmick, comparable to how an audiophile would tell you how their gold plated audio cables get better quality. Just like if an audiophile tells you their $10,000 dollar gold plated cable has a noticeable difference from a $25 non gold plated cable, anyone who tells you they notice a difference between the gold USB connector and a non gold one is just experiencing a placebo effect. I won't bother explaining why their headsets suck, as the picture that I have explains that rather effectively (and angrily).

TL;DR: Razer products are made with questionable quality , are very overpriced, and are filled with a ton of marketing gimmicks.

How does the Razer DeathAdder 2013 suck?
User avatar
#38 - defectivetoast (11/28/2013) [-]
The razer deathAdder is the only razer product that I would consider buying. Its the only one with a reasonable price, does not have as much stupid gimmicks. But, there are also a lot of better alternatives in the same price range
