Granted, the books are for a younger audience (although there were some pretty unpleasant bits) but I'm just a stickler for keeping to the story. The movie was good, but I guess the reason I have a pole up my butt about it is because they could've made something just as good if it wasn't based off the book.

It's so pretty too. Thank you. What about amps though? Do they all have different settings or are they generally the same except like more functions than others? Are there any small ones that you can recommend?

There's more types of amplifiers than you'd think. If you're planning on learning how to play guitar well, one with not too many functions is where to start. Volume, overdrive, high mid and low knobs, maybe reverb. Stay away from BC Rich, Line 6, Pignose, and anything that says "modeling amplifier". If you're looking for just an amp to practice with, this is pretty good.
