Poverty isn't a bunch of Asian/African kids you'd see on an ActionAid advert or a group of people kidnapped by Kony.

The argument is based off of mine and I'm sitting here trying to understand how people can think there's absolute poverty, here.

Also, you cannot say 'why have 4 kids if you don't earn enough'. Perhaps they had a better job but were made redundant due to the recent economic crisis? Perhaps they have been trying to get a better job?

Poverty comes under two terms. Absolute poverty and Relative poverty. Relative poverty is someone who is poor compared to their general surroundings, and someone who cannot achieve their potential socially, physically and financially in their current position.
Absolute poverty is literally living on around a dollar a day.
In America, the majority of the poor are relative but there are absolute. Also in the UK, where I live. Infact, London has an extremely high poverty rate.
Poverty exists in just about every country.

The crusades were not religious, they were political under the guise of religion.
