| It has to be very distilled. Like, lab-quality distilled. Any minerals/salts in it and it will short out the electronics. On the other hand, store-shelf mineral oil will work fine, since it is an insulator so it can stand a tiny amount of conductive contaminants. There's actually a video on youtube somewhere of a guy who mounted his old computer motherboard (and all the other shit) onto a frame and hung it into a fish tank full of mineral oil. Said that even without any cooling, it stayed pretty cool since the equilibrium temp of the mineral oil was just a little above room temperature (due to its high surface area and sheer volume)... #9

Sammael (07/10/2012) [-] My best friend works in organic chemistry, I'm sure she can score me some lab-rate water. I did know about oil, we did something similar during my last year at uni, except we dipped a small server. We were testing posibility of cooling server farms by keeping them dipped in oil and chilling the oil. Its effective, but not cost effective. I would think it would be very cost effective. At least, if you had the sort of rig that needed that kind of cooling. Obviously, if fans are enough then any other cooling method isn't cost effective... Was thinking about maybe doing a setup similar to what I described with the fish tank, and with a pump that sucks oil from one end, runs it into a minifridge where it does a few loops around (to cool it) then back out and into the tank on the opposite end. Maybe with a few computer fans to circulate the oil... | ||

I already tried messing with all the options I could find on my computer. Nothing made them any louder. I think the problem is that the speakers I'm trying to use aren't amplified.
I do have speakers that are amplified, and they work great, but they aren't exactly portable either... Having a smaller set that I can take with me is why I'm trying to figure out this problem...
Also, it's a Toshiba Sattelite P755. Not sure what other specs you need...
