I apologize for taking so long to reply, life and whatnot yknow?

PS:A did upgrade to 24 characters, and was going to have an even bigger roster, however the company decided to stop supporting it which is a real shame in my opinion, as I've mentioned the game had so much potential but didn't really follow through.

As for combos, all I've noticed in Smash is obviously the Smash moves where you hold the A button and a direction down. There's nothing wrong with this, it just plays very differently from a game where X O, X O O, X O [], and X O O [] are lead to different moves (and only for a certain character while the others have different combos)

I'm not sure what you mean by visuals, unless you mean the UI which you mentioned earlier. As for the graphical style, each character and stage looks like they do in their respective game.

What Sony did that Nintendo had done with Smash Bros. :
- put all their major league characters together in one game, something that Capcom did 4 years before Nintendo, and something that fans have wanted for years
- created a side scrolling fighting game (a genre), something that's been done a million times
- made it so it could be played by 4 players, rather than just close up 2 players, a.k.a. a sub-genre

What All Stars does differently than Smash:
- Aside from Good and Evil Cole, all characters play vastly different from one another, rather than having clone characters (ie. Ganon to Captain Falcon, Lucas to Ness, Toon Link to Link, Ike to Roy to Marth, etc).

- Combos. I shouldn't need to explain this cause it's in pretty much every fighting game except Smash Bros.

- A system not based on HP or Smash's % system. In order to kill a character, you NEED to charge your Supers, there a 3 levels of Supers and they are each more powerful than the last. In order to charge supers, players MUST damage enemies. This is both different from almost anything we've seen, not to mention it makes fighting mandatory (in other words, a player can't just run away and sit in a corner while the rest of the players duke it out, then swoop in with full lives while the remaining other player has 1 life and win with ease).

So far, you have not rebutted any of my points even though I have layed them out in a fairly easy to understand fashion. Unless you have a counter argument, nothing you say can be taken seriously, simply saying "It's a copy. Simple as that." is not enough.

I should probably mention that I enjoy debate, and it disappoints me when my opponent isn't versed in his or her field.

"all characters play differently, no copy characters."
First of all PS:A only has 20 characters while smash has 35. So even when you take out the copy characters there is still more diversity. And many of the copy characters cant even be considered copies because they play so differently. Like CF and ganondorf or Ness and Lucas.

"Combos"
I looked up a combo video and I see what you mean. But smash does have combos. They are a little more subtle but they are definitely there.

The KO system is different, I'll give you that one. But when the only notable difference is the KO system and everything else (including every detail of the visuals) is almost spot on you know its really cutting it close.

"Do not feature the main characters from the company like smash and all stars"

So hold up, because Sony is the only other company to have a plethora of characters from different franchises to do that with, it automatically makes it a copy?

"Plus they are not popular or big name games."

Because that matters when defining genre.

"You can't call this style its own genre because 3 games in the past 10 years, 2 being arcade or indie games, are slightly similar to it."

You're right, it's a sub-genre, fighting is the main genre.

Also, the fact that you've never played it takes almost any shred of credibility you had away. I've played both extensively, and I can tell you when PS All Stars was first announced, I though it would be a copy (I didn't care per se, but I still thought it would be), after playing it I can certainly tell you it's similar, but the two play very differently. PS All Stars probably would have been a better game honestly if it HAD copied Smash completely, but it went in another direction and, while still fun, squandered some of it's potential.
User avatar #263 - danzoshimura (02/08/2014) [-]
It's a copy. Simple as that. Smash Bros is too unique.

It looks too similar. I've watched plenty of gameplay. Everything is just too similar.

The point is, Sony copied Nintendo. It is undeniable. Everyone knows this game as "playstation smash bros." I'm sorry that you can't accept it, but its true.

And the gimmick is about forcing you to buy a specific console to play a specific game. Not about the games themselves.

"The goal is to knock them off the screen, there isn't a life bar that runs out. You have damage points instead of health, which is a whole different system. The more damage you have, the farther you fly. "

Since this isn't how PS All Stars works, I'm not going to factor it into a the genre search.

What I will factor in is the "lot of airspace and space off the edges of the maps. It supports 4 players. It isn't as grounded and up close and personal as the normal ones. It has large maps with a lot of fun twists to them, not just the normal arenas."

In which case:
Rag Doll Kung Fu
Small Arms
Jump Ultimate Stars
User avatar #254 - danzoshimura (02/08/2014) [-]
Those games do not feature the main characters from the company like smash and all stars.

Plus they are not popular or big name games. You can't call this style its own genre because 3 games in the past 10 years, 2 being arcade or indie games, are slightly similar to it.

And those games are not that similar to smash, you can just tell by the style. Look at PS all stars. It looks EXACTLY the same as smash, character selection screen and everything. If you deny that PS all stars is just a copy paste of smash, you are lying to yourself.

I'm not saying its a bad game, I haven't played it. But it is clearly a copy. Which was the whole point of this thread.
