Actually, they kind of do. Because once you then learn them, you won't forget them, and it's harder to confuse them with something else.
Ore no Nounai Sentakushi ga, Gakuen Love Comedy o Zenryoku de Jama Shiteiru
Yuusha ni Nare Nakatta Ore wa Shibushibu Shuushoku o Ketsui Shimashita
Watashi ga Motenai no wa dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!
Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Boku-tachi wa Mada Shiranai
Onii-chan no Koto Nanka Zenzen Suki Janain Dakara ne!!
Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru
Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuraba Sugiru
You can't argue that those names stand out more than:
#811102 - lawuser (11/01/2013) [-]
What? No, sorry, it doesn't work like that. I don't fucking look at all these titles and read "Ore no X" "Ano no X" "Boku no X" or whatever and then some fucking how not confuse them with the millions of other titles like that. And it doesn't help that, probably, the majority of the people who watch those shows have no idea what the fuck the words in the title actually mean, so they're just not gonna remember it.
#811020 - jakeandhistoe (11/01/2013) [-]
People become accustomed to the shorter variants of their names. I never see anyone refer to any of these anime in their full name; it always comes to the nickname they get. It's more convenient to say and type. Even if this is not about memorisation, at a quick glance the longer name will not leave an impression similar to the shorter name. If you don't need to completely memorise them to recognise them then the shorter names are more practical as well.
#811007 - jettom (11/01/2013) [-]
But for those who'se names are sentences? Not really. Shorter is easier to memorize and easier to keep in memory for a longer time.
#811012 - TheMather (11/01/2013) [-]
Try with the English names then. I wouldn't pin it as much on your memory in general as much as ability to memorize Japanese.
If I were to say the name My Little Sister Can't be this Cute!, you would probably process that faster than Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii wake ga Nai!
#811025 - TheMather (11/01/2013) [-]
Pretty much as in yes or as in it takes a second to process?
For comparison, if you heard the term "Heaven's Lost Property" (Sora no Otoshimono), in some other context, you'd probably smile from drawing the connection to the anime the instant you heard it. Would you do the same with Bleach?

"Once you learn them, you won't forget them, and it's harder to confuse them with something else. "
1. That has absolutely nothing to do with catching on.
2. That's wrong, something longer is much more easily forgotten than something short. Even trying to argue that is stupid.
3. Standing out =/= catching on.
#810996 - TheMather (11/01/2013) [-]
It's easier to make mistakes in remembering something long, but you won't forget the gist of them.
I've watched hundreds of anime, the short names just pass on into a pile of "nothing special"s, but the long names always stay fresh in mind. If someone mentions one of the short named ones, it'll take a moment to process which that is, but the long ones I remember instantly.
#810997 - yusay (11/01/2013) [-]
And the most popular TV shows of all time have short names, but that doesn't mean anything to you because you have a special brain, does it?
Jingles are short. Ads are short. Trailers are short. Names that are short catch on.
The Walking Dead. The Simpsons, The Cosby Show, Friends, Doctor Who, X-Files, Lost. These are some of the most popular shows there are. If you couldn't tell, they have short names.
#811005 - yusay (11/01/2013) [-]
Also, if you're going to try to use the most popular anime on Mal, let's take a look at the rest of their top ten.
4. Clannad: After Story
5. Gintama': Enchousen
6. Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu
8. Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch
9. Shingeki no Kyojin
10. Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu
Disregarding no because it functions as the Japanese 's, the longest show there is four words, usually shorted to just two.
#811001 - yusay (11/01/2013) [-]
"99% of TV shows have short names" Because if you don't even try it won't help you.
"And is is further disproved by how the #1 anime has a semi-long name"
You do realize that's three words, right? Please, please tell me you realize that's three words and regret using it. I know you're special, but you can't be this stupid too.

I used to stay up late when I was about 8 and think about all kinds of questions, I thought about how dinosaurs and humans didn't coexist so God wasted time making them, how I may as well just worship God when I'm old, about other religions and apocalypses and I just sort of shrugged it off, there were times though when I sort of felt momentary guilt like when I was touching my cock because I was scared of God and so it took a while to adjust. Eventually I just found a euphoric fedora on the floor and when I put it on and calmed my semi erection I became a full atheist
#44853 - ihatem (11/01/2013) [-]
Actually something very close to "it was stupid". The more that I learned about natural explanations instead of religious explanations, the sillier and sillier religion looked. So many doors opened to alternatives in literally every aspect religion covers that were magnitudes better than the way religion handles things, hope, creation, existence, life, morality, social order, love for people, outlook on the world around, and especially how to treat reasoning, such as the "Go on faith" sort of thing. Although the coping with death/afterlife does ebb and flow.

Something never felt right when I was a Christian. I had doubts, I knew some of the beliefs were silly, even as young as 5 years old. I mostly ignored it and tried harder to be a good Christian thinking it would shove those doubts out of my head. It didn't. As I learned more in school, especially about science, the worse it got for me. But I still went to church as much as I could and would preach to friends and family as often as I could.
I was debating people I knew who believed in different religions, were atheists, or even those who believed in different types of Christianity. This was the beginning of my deconversion.
And then I was enrolled in a class at college that really made me think. It was a history class, but the professor was sort of like a modern day philosopher. She was very interested in different religions and cultures and would require the class to talk about different questions she raised. And from about this time it took several years for me to become an Atheist.
I decided that I cared whether or not my beliefs were true and could no longer bring myself to believe in things that were not true even if those things made me feel good.
And when I picked up The Bible and looked at it from this new perspective, I saw the errors, the contradictions, the immoral teachings. I realized I had been indoctrinated into Christianity and that if I were born in another country, I would have probably been Hindu or Muslim or Jewish.
Then I began to look at its history, how it was put together, why certain books were accepted over others. Who wrote the books, how old they were. And I started to see that much of everything my parents and preachers told me throughout my life was a plain lie or at least they were misinformed and didn't realize it.
And really, it just took lots of research and lots of thinking, something I previously didn't do as a Christian.

I never bother going to Waterstones, their stock is quite overpriced. Never really looked in a WHsmith's book section properly. Forbidden Planet is the best physical retail store anyway, the one in my home town is pretty neat. Don't have one where I'm staying now.
I just buy all my Manga online now, on either Amazon or Book Depository. Never had to shell out more than £7 for one volume.
#809531 - babybeel (10/30/2013) [-]
Amazon is best, but I wanted to just point out what it's like in my area. When I go shopping I always peek and I dont want to spend £9 everytime. The library has some manga some most of it is shoujo shit and naruto.
At least for my birthday and christmas all my mam gets me is manga so I get it free.
