The robot in question isn't exactly programmed with the knowledge of how to play or do anything. I does things by watching someone else to it first then try to mimic them. So what likely happened was the robot made a move it didn't know it wasn't allowed to make because nobody told it that it wasn't a valid move before.

that's a pretty glaring error by the programmers then.

You see, humans have common sense, robots only do as they are EXACTLY told.
