When a cat's claws are removed the last bone in all the toes are removed. In many cats this ruins their fine balance and the ability to feel things correctly; some cats also get small growths of bone and small tumors in the now empty parts of their paws (this is especially prevalent in big cats and in hybrids).

Some cats take well to it, but managing their natural scratching behavior is generally better. Many veterinarians suggest declawing because it cost big bucks.

it could still lead to problems, trimming might be a pain but just teach your cat to use a scratching post instead, declawing could result in splintered claws and a lot of pain in the future

Number 1 is incorrect. He was moderately wealthy, but that's about it. The Potter fortune wasn't actually very large and the Black fortune had been decimated before it got to Harry. However, it's still not an issue because Hogwarts is free, except for supplies, and he and Ginny probably make decent money.

The thing is, they expand on the fact that erised was a false hope. They talk about how it can draw on your desires in a bad way.

There are a few times in the book that bring Harry comfort over the loss of his parents such as their assistance in fighting Voldemort in Goblet of Fire (despite the lack of clarity on if they were real or not).
