Why do you have opinions on things that you do not understand.
User avatar #131 to #130 - dafiltafish (01/18/2013) [-]
why are you hounding me for being afk for 20 minutes? i know i am not a gun expert. i don't claim to be one. i just think that the general welfare of the population is everyone's business.
User avatar #133 to #131 - trollnot (01/18/2013) [-]
I don't mean to be angry I honestly think that you are uneducated in the subject and I would be happy to help you learn more.
User avatar #132 to #131 - trollnot (01/18/2013) [-]
Then do something that would curb the violence. These current measures do nothing. They are "feel good laws" that make everyone feel like its safe, but will do nothing in the end.

User avatar #134 to #132 - dafiltafish (01/18/2013) [-]
you want my actual plan? i have one that might kill a couple birds with one stone.
User avatar #136 to #134 - trollnot (01/18/2013) [-]
I'm Waiting btw. Also to your argument about you need to reload more so they can tackle you. Its not that hard to change a magazine. I've trained myself to do it in under a couple seconds. Also if you are changing the mag and aren't fast enough and some one is coming at you. "HEY LOOK WHAT I HAVE IN MY HANDS ITS A MAKESHIFT CLUB!"
User avatar #139 to #136 - dafiltafish (01/18/2013) [-]
well, what would you do if you were being shot at?
User avatar #141 to #139 - trollnot (01/18/2013) [-]
Well I CC so this doesn't apply to me. If I was unarmed I would try to hide or get out. If i couldn't then I would wait and lure the man into a trap the only way to win at that point is by surprise
User avatar #143 to #141 - dafiltafish (01/18/2013) [-]
all valid response.

what i was saying is that the more chance of a dropped clip or a gun jam is a greater chance at overpowering the shooter. he is still a human, with human weaknesses.
User avatar #146 to #143 - trollnot (01/18/2013) [-]
yes you are correct, waiting for him to slip up in a combat situation is something that cannot be relied on you have yourself and people around you. there is panic people not cooperation you just cant rush him.
User avatar #148 to #146 - dafiltafish (01/18/2013) [-]
i guess it just depends on the situation. keeping a level head and being opportunistic are very useful tools to the unarmed civilian.
User avatar #151 to #148 - trollnot (01/18/2013) [-]
Why do you think most mass shootings happen in gun free zones. It because they are unarmed they don't care if they die but they still want to rack up the biggest body count they can because they were stopped.

Can you name any of the last few mass shooters in the states?
If you can name one there is a problem

Can you name the man at Phoenix who stopped the shooter who tried to kill Senator Gabriel Gifford? What about the principal who stopped one of his student who was in body armor who was about to kill his classmate, the principal stopped him with a simple 1911 btw which is 7 rounds vs the kids Glock with a 50 round beta mag. The principal was a trained shooter by the way.

We glorify the psychos as war gods and leave the true hero's to obscurity.
User avatar #153 to #151 - dafiltafish (01/18/2013) [-]
we live in a ****** up time, and it is about time we try to ********** it.
User avatar #154 to #153 - trollnot (01/18/2013) [-]
stop glorifying killers in the media it simple
User avatar #156 to #154 - dafiltafish (01/18/2013) [-]
that would fix several problems. the legislation will fix the rest.

the problem is that networks like this stuff too much and as a result the legislation as of now seems to do too little in the public eye.

when you fix that, then this nation will be on it's way to a better future.
User avatar #135 to #134 - trollnot (01/18/2013) [-]
GO ahead and shoot

legislation piece #1. make gun show purchases as regulated as gun store purchases. have a background check, have the waiting period. it is a law that has skimmed over all to often.

#2. as an experiment, start a teaching program for defense in schools. it is the one the army uses to teach the Afghanistan people to protect themselves. if it sticks then the entire nation will be a lot safer despite the maniacs that pop up now and again.

#3. see what can be done about stuff like the AR-15. it isn't that it is a bad gun, it and others like it just need a bit more safeguards to ensure that responsible people are the only people using it. see #4

#4. background checks. yay. screen these people as well as you can, don't stop at the "has he shot anyone" question. "was he ever a drug user?" "does he have any DUIs on record?" "has he ever been involved in gang violence?". i know these are already on the applications and background checks, but have it be a black and white deal. if the person is clean, give him whatever he wants, if he has something against him, refuse service and/or suggest counseling (store owners discretion).

#5 treatment: if someone still wants their gun and has a black mark, give that person a path to getting it. it would need to be evaluated case by case, but it is a fair way to give people what they want without hindering their rights altogether.

#6 offenders will be treated as harshly as possible, these things have the capacity to kill. but as a part to to jail-time, give them some treatment options if they have any mental problems or physical dependencies. it wont make them innocent, but anything that takes down the possibility of re-offense is a step in the right direction.

not all have to be passed, but more than one does. we as a nation are getting a bit too old for this crap.

I agree with all of them except for number one. Its a false thing that news likes to put out it doesn't exist;
User avatar #140 to #138 - dafiltafish (01/18/2013) [-]
still, we do have too many under the table deals in this country.
User avatar #142 to #140 - trollnot (01/18/2013) [-]
They are Private sales. PRIVATE SALES they do not require background checks.

If you said something like. I believe that all sales need to be done through a FFL dealer as a middle man then it would make sense
User avatar #144 to #142 - dafiltafish (01/18/2013) [-]
as i said, i am no expert.
User avatar #145 to #144 - trollnot (01/18/2013) [-]
I started running classes on this at my college you would not believe how many people are uniformed about this subject. The news makes it seem like they are so much worse then they are.
User avatar #147 to #145 - dafiltafish (01/18/2013) [-]
i agree, the media sensationalizes way to much.
User avatar #149 to #147 - trollnot (01/18/2013) [-]
I grow tired of these attacks on the second amendment, when the only argument this see most often is "THINK OF THE CHILDREN!"

I ******* am AND I'M TELLING YOU THIS WONT WORK.
User avatar #150 to #149 - dafiltafish (01/18/2013) [-]
i dislike the fact that they use an easy scapegoat, which is idiotic.

i also dislike the leaders of the NRA. "put a cop in every school!!" is ludicrous when it comes down to the logistics. and there is the fact that if there was a shooter, there is no guarantee the cop could do any good, there are too many other panicked people around you to get off a clean shot.
User avatar #152 to #150 - trollnot (01/18/2013) [-]
I don't see how that is a problem anyway I grew up in a small town and we had a cop in our school 24/7 and it lowers the response time from 20 mins to about a few seconds
User avatar #155 to #152 - dafiltafish (01/18/2013) [-]
all i know is that they had a guy at columbine. the story goes that he caught up with him and just didn't have the skill to take out a shooter without shooting a student.
User avatar #158 to #155 - trollnot (01/18/2013) [-]
another thing is that columbine and The west Hollywood shootout also know was the biggest shootout in us history happened during the last AWB which body armor, Over 10 round mags and body armor was outlawed, but the west Hollywood guys got all 3 plus select-fire ak47s. Criminals don't follow laws
User avatar #161 to #158 - dafiltafish (01/18/2013) [-]
do we really have to live in fear of these people? there has to be something we can do.
User avatar #162 to #161 - trollnot (01/18/2013) [-]
We don't That's my point even though these tragedies are horrible, You being part of one percentage is so low that you have a better chance of being struck by lighting twice which is also like .05%

parents can better protect their children by putting safety guards on their pools

You could also train the teachers to Conceal carry at work instead of making cops do it.
User avatar #163 to #162 - dafiltafish (01/19/2013) [-]
it's a work in pregress.
User avatar #157 to #155 - trollnot (01/18/2013) [-]
But, they didn't This "Security" guard they keep talking about was actually an off duty cop who was walking by. they were outside and the cop took 5 shoots 3 actually hit one of then i believe it was Klebold and punctured his lungs. Sadly this was at the end of there spree they ran back inside and killed themselves a minute later. Probably do to the fact the Keblod could no longer continue.

The news like to leave little facts out to suit there agenda classic dis-information
User avatar #159 to #157 - dafiltafish (01/18/2013) [-]
i don't remember columbine to be honest. i was 4 years old at the time and was lighting the couch on fire with paper towels.

anyway, all i have to run off of is what i can find online. it sounds pathetic, but i only checked once without looking at the source. i apologize for that bit of personal failure.

the fact remains that schools are not as safe as they could be, but personally i think a cop in every school seems a bit too pricy. i stand my my suggestion of personal defense. might help to put a real lock-down system in. push a button and the doors dead bolt. future school design.
