i agree with the not scary part.... also i dont like how overpowered the guns are in DS3 its pretty outrageous how you can make a 1 hit kill seeker rifle and a rivot chain gun....... also not to mention the preorder'd gun you get is op till half way through the game, also i dont like how if you play cooperativley you save on supplies, (ammo and health mainly) and when you play solo your always scrounging, one thing i LOVE is the fact that ration seal's can be used to buy dlc..... i mean its only supplies but daaaamn do they help

Recently finished dead space 1 for the first time, I'm at chapter 7 or 8 in dead space 2 so far, and I have dead space 3 ready right after.

I loved the story from 1 much better, but the second had better game dynamics. From what I've played of the third, I really like it.

I've always liked the Dead Space series
Dead Space scared me and I loved it
In Dead Space 2 I loved the Stalkers and I played the game through with my friend and I always handed him the controller before we went into one of their rooms; they scared the shit out of him
I still think both the Re-entry Halo Jump and the Tormentor events are fucking awesome
Dead Space 3 is probably my favorite though, crafting ridiculous weapons and showing them to strangers on XBL is hilarious
Though if I may complain about one thing, it's that the ending is kind of Mass Effect 3ish

Heavy frame javelin gun with a line rack on the bottom. I call it the crossbow.
User avatar #30 - koalasonfire (02/17/2013) [-]
Great series, don't see why there are so many scare factor complaints. After all, it is just the evolution of an engineer struggling to survive to a badass who knows the necromorphs and has fought them by the hundreds.
#27 - varrlegrimscythe (02/17/2013) [-]
I found it less scary in this installment, but there were points where the game made me jump which was a welcome surprise because I thought the game was incapable of scaring me. I found DS3 even more awesome because of the fact that you are a 49 year old ex-engineer capable of curb stomping space zombies to death while holding a acid buzz-saw flamethrower.
User avatar #16 - kickinwingdos (02/17/2013) [-]
The scare factor has been taken out, in DS1 and DS2 you were in a tight confined area kind of, but in this one you have so much room to run around you can just run around enemies but I like it a lot still, beat the game on co-op and playing classic mode as we speak.
User avatar #13 - upunkpunk (02/17/2013) [-]
Never found the series scary but enjoys the creepy atmosphere in the first and the second one. Played about an hour in the third ones got bored and quit. Uninstalled it.

Loved every one of them. Isaac, in my opinion, is a greater hero than any other video game protagonist out there. I mean come on. He's killed hundreds of necromorphes. And got with two fine ass women. He's defeated his dementia, destroyed two markers, and stopped the greatest threat the galaxy has known.

Isaac Clarke is a badass beyond compare.
User avatar #118 - koshmiester (02/17/2013) [-]
plus he was never a soldier or trained for combat. loved every game and each played differently so different people should prefer different dead spaces

Also need to note his name is bad-ass. Named from the combination of the two greatest sci-fi writes Isaac Asimov and Arthur C. Clarke. He is engineered to be the best sci-fi hero out there, pun intended!
User avatar #119 - TheNewRavager (02/17/2013) [-]
I've referred to Issac Asimov simply as Asimov for so long, I didn't make this connection to Issac Clarke's name. I knew about Arthur C. Clarke, but damn I feel stupid for not realizing where his first name came from. What do you think his middle name is?

I think what makes him so great is he is just a normal, everyday guy. Easily relate-able in most of his actions. Hes going through the Ishimura shitting bricks with you the entire way.

What I really didin't like about ds3 was that they didin't make you feel helpless. I mean, think about it. In the beginning of ds1 you're going to a ship for a repair and you get more than you bargained for and you were completely unprepared. Ds2 was it greatest, you wake up in a fucking straitjacket with some strange man waking you up. before you know it, he's a damn necromorph and all you can do is run.

Ds3 was alright. It wasn't as much of a dissapointment as I thought it was going to be.
User avatar #17 - gardenjustice (02/17/2013) [-]
Don't like people saying that as the series progressed you didn't feels helpless anymore. No shit you didn't feel helpless. You started out with barely anything to work with and no knowledge of these beings anatomy. In the third, you're accompanied by a party of people that know damn well what they're doing and what to shoot for, and you yourself refer to dismembering and clearing out entire buildings of those things nonchalantly as though it's not big deal anymore. Isaac has changed, he's not afraid, he's not having dementia problems, and he's become incredibly good at what he's been forced to do in the past years.

I remember seeing something a couple days ago and I'm gonna try to repeat what that person said:
DS is a game based on Issac, so they made it they way you would be if you were in Issacs space boots. In DS1, the necomorphs were new so it was made literally into the most horrific form of scariness. DS2, you're trying to find out who you(issac) are, as a person and the necromorphs are still scary but at the same time you're somewhat used to how they behave. In DS3, you're pretty much a veteran at dealing with necromorphs so they're no where near as scary, sure, it had jump scares, but not scary.
TL;DR They made DS so that you feel as though you are Issac

Dead Space 1 had a really good start in terms of fear atmosphere, however that faded pretty quickly due to the reliance on mostly predictable jump-scares and the fact that Isaac is the most competent man in the entire Dead Space universe. Dead Space 2 felt mostly like an action game with a little bit of horror. The scariest part (in my opinion) was the return to the Ishimura, but that was due to the first game and not really anything new. The insanity aspect was really underused and tended to seem forced and weak (more of an informed insanity than actually feeling like Isaac was insane, even with Nicole's presence). Dead Space 3 feels like a decent action game. One type of new enemies (the weapon wielding ones) seem like a fall apart doll in terms of body damage. While the previous games had heavy "The Thing" influence in monster designs and atmosphere, this one seems like a simple attempted copy (minus the level of mistrust) once you get to the moon. All in all, it's gone from a fairly tense and interesting action horror to a decent action game without much horror, which is really a shame in my opinion given the overabundance of action games available compared to the decreasing number of horror titles.

TL;DR: Was a pretty good action-horror game, became a decent action game
User avatar #5 - cykocd (02/16/2013) [-]
I agree in most aspects. I find that it is not as scary as the series claims to be, but even when it fails to be horrifying, it has such a well made action aspect that keeps it entertaining and fun.

Hello! I was wondering, if you no longer collect items, then those FJ points are useless to you. I collect items however, and was wondering whether you'd be willing to donate your unused items and FJ points to me in a trade? I will be putting to them good use for umm... science? Thanks :D
