I personally admire Adolf Hitler for one thing, he fanatized entire country himself.. he was just a normal person like everyone else, he achieved alot in his life and history will always remember him, because history always remembers mainly the bad people.

Once a species has exceeded the capacity that the environment, or in the case of humans, technology can support the growth of the population will drastically slow until the population drops below capacity. Then it will rise again and fall again until an equilibrium is reached.

In the case of humans, that capacity line would be diagonal with positive slope, but the same phenomenon occurs.
