In essence these guys used so much hair product and hair spray that when they tried to light up, their fabulous levels suddenly rose beyond what the universe could handle and they burst into flames as result.

Nitrous oxide is non-flammable at room temperature. It was either butane or just straight-up petroleum (gasoline fumes are super fucking volatile... like, fishing reel friction volatile).
