that doesn't mean they're bad, the first episodes have some of the funniest moments. It's not reeally a show you watch for the story, more just funny creative shit

I wouldn't recommend it. There's a lot of continuity between episodes that really helps to make the show better. There's never a point where you'll need to see an earlier episode to know what's going on (except for a couple episodes that are 2 or 3 parts long, which are always aired together) but seeing the connections across episodes really helps to develop a good idea of the world and characters you're seeing. There's one episode in season 4 that's pretty powerful on its own but after seeing some of the earlier episodes that it connects to it will hit you so much harder (the extra context for the last 10 seconds almost made me cry). You'll appreciate the show more if you watch the episodes in order, or you at least do for most episodes.

Besides, even though I think the later seasons are stronger, there are a lot of good episodes in the first two seasons. Just start binge watching. It takes surprisingly little time to get through the series so far and you'll really like it.

The episode I was talking about was I Remember You in season 4 but the earlier episodes Holly Jolly Secrets parts 1 and 2 and Memory of a Memory, which I recommend you watch first.

The show starts out like any other cartoonnetwork show, but over time the randomness gets toned down but it's still there and used with good effect. Also you shouldn't skip any seasons because this show loves bringing back old characters, no character shall be forgotten!

My five year old was watching this on Netflix one day and he asked me to watch it with him.

We watched whatever Netflix had, and I went and downloaded the rest. This is a hilarious cartoon, made even better by hearing Bender when the dog speaks.

I laughed wildly at pic related.

like spongebob it get worse as the show advance
#29 - deckbox (09/01/2014) [-]
Spongebob only came bad because the lead writer left after the movie, just they kept going with it, so literally only the first 2 seasons are 'Proper' spongebob.

no way, adventure time has been consistently good, the finn relationship stuff was the only bad period

If you're talking about spongebob in its prime, it's just as good as that was (most of the time).

If you're talking about current spongebob, AT is way better than that trash.

I usually compare the show to Futurama. It's a bunch of wacky adventures involving colorful characters and interesting environments that's normally pretty funny but occasionally hits you with heavily emotional episodes that will make you really respect the show. It's one of the rare cartoons where the characters age with the show and the tone sort of matures as the episodes keep going. The first season or two are playful and innocent, kinda like Spongebob, and the show never loses that feeling, but starting around season 3 they start adding a lot of depth to the characters and they start to deal with the backstory (it's set 1000 years after a nuclear war in modern times) and it gets to be one of the better shows on television right now.

Not to mention the fact that Bender from Futurama and Jake from AT share the same voice actor. John DiMaggio

When I decided to watch AT the first thing I watched was the original animated short. I wasn't impressed but I gave it another shot solely because DiMaggio was in it. That was lucky as hell because he's the only character from the short to be played by the same actor in the series and it's now one of my favorite shows.

It starts off as Spongebob then becomes Mad Men in levels of writing, transitioning from 4th to 5th season shit starts getting pretty fucking real, sexual awakening interpersonal relationships tragic backstories vastly expanded character development, several character deaths then a huge twist at the end of season 6.

Honestly it is one of the most important cartoons on TV right now, but the censors are butchering it to fuck and the emotional sexual points the show tries to establish are cut out, removing the point of a few episodes that deal with relationships
