I've honestly always have just seen it as your run of the mill burly space marine game, and judging from what I've played (2 and 3), it does that fine. I guess it's just not for me.

It literally is just that, but combined with the amazing soundtracks, great levels and sheer brutality, I love it.

It really is an acquired taste, though.
