This has nothing to do with american english, or general english.
We're discussing why it's called 'AN honor/honour' and not 'A honor/honour'

I dont think Im better than anyone else. You're reply made no sense. You can't make fun of America or any country for that matter and not expect someone to be upset.

Like I said, I don't think Im better than anyone or try to make myself sound better. I just have pride in my country. This started out with the word 'color' or 'colour' however you choose to spell it. It then turned into how America is lazy and illiterate. Which is not true. Stupid is as stupid does. You're going to find it every where.

Are you in a different country or something? In MATLAB, Excel, Windows, and various CADs a period is used to define decimals, at least in the US. I've never used commas to define decimals. :/

What?
#695 - crilleballe (09/20/2012) [-]
On Windows, comma is the default sign to say 'What comes after this is decimals'
Therefore, if i had used a comma I would, by Windows standard, have written a decimal number equal to 2 meters and 475 millimeters.
Different people do it in different ways, but i like to stick to the way Windows does it, so i don't get confused when using Excel, and other math programs.

User avatar #499 - mormonslayer (09/19/2012) [-]
im European and no it isnt, its maths dude. its not language or region specific. there's no compromise. you just wrote 2.475m, as in slightly more than 2 metres.

Open Microsoft Excel.
Type any decimal number using period
Type any decimal number using comma
Add 1
Windows uses commas do designate a decimal number and period for any other purpose, such as the one mentioned above.
I know many people who like to use comma, and many who like to use periods, but since windows uses commas to designate decimals, i did so too.
#513 - fefe (09/19/2012) [-]
Yes it is. I can confirm that many European countries use a comma instead of a period.
Source: we do it in my European country.
